Re: Who is your favorite WWII Ace?

There are so many I could think of and all of them deserve a mention.

Every time I think of an answer another name pops into my head.

I think I would probably suggest one of the boys from the desert theatre of ops, not surprisingly a P40 pilot.

Perhaps Neville Shute or Caldwell, it was a tough life out there with no comforts just a dusty old tent.
Fighting against Me109s FW190s and Macs, and beating them.

How about a pilot called Ed Miluck an Eagle squadron member, he had a tough posting there.

But then again ol Bud Anderson sits very high on my list, a real tiger in battle but on the ground a just a modest genuine nice guy.
Then again I have spent the last few months reading up on the 357th and JP is correct about those guys Meyer and Preddy were outstanding.
I think I will have to pass on this one, I just cannot pick out one guy.

Have to agree with you, Jim...And, there is no way I would've been as concise with my answer as you!!! (now, if the question was about WW I....)

Re: Who is your favorite WWII Ace?

I have to say it is my friend Phil, who flew the P-38 JEWBOY out of Foggia, Italy. When we talk story and his wife is around she just rolls her eyes, having heard the stories many times, but I never tire of his tales and insights. I have a signed photo of him in front of his bird.

Re: Who is your favorite WWII Ace?

Perhaps Neville Shute or Caldwell,

.. Don't you mean Neville Duke....?. I think Neville Shute (Norway) was in the Navy, doing hush hush stuff, whilst his company knocking out Airspeed Oxfords and him the odd yarn or two..

OOOps the brain failed me again, of course I meant to say Neville Duke.

Its CCs fault he is giving me brain strain trying to figure out all those obscure aircraft photos.( brilliant thread though).

Louie, I saw in interview with Hub on TV a few years ago, boy o boy that guy didnt take any prisoners, even as old veteran he was still full of fire and passion for the job.
He certainly didnt mess with words, get in there and shoot the hell out the b.st..ds!

What a guy.

God Bless America.
