Exclamation My thoughts on collecting in 2008

Last edited by Louie : 10-09-2008 at 01:53 AM.
Man, is it just me or are you guys feeling the same way about this new year in collecting?

Is 2008 gonna be the BEST year ever for us collectors or what?

For me it is the anticipation of possible new Carousel 1 1/48 bi-planes and re-paints of existing molds.
Corgi's WW1 planes like those colorful Albatrosses,Spads, Sopwiths, and Se5a's.
Hobbymasters much anticipated Me-110's,F-4's,F-5's,P-39s and untold repaints and variants especially the very limited chrome JASDF F-104.
CW's F-8's,A-7's,and other re-paints and variants of existing models.
FOV's medium bomber fleet,AVG P-40,UH-60's and P-51's as well as re-paints etc..etc..etc..
Witty's single seat Mig 29 Fulcrum (back off rivet counters, I want it) and other surprises I'm sure.
Corgi's C-47,pre-war Gladiator, and British medium/heavy bombers.
Hobbymasters 1/72 helicopters
Corgi's helicopters
Gemini's Skyraider it never ends

Good lord how will I begin to pay for this stuff and I HAVE TO have examples of most of that stuff to keep my sanity
This is the year of e-baying and selling /trading off stuff I am luke-warm about, or saved for just this circumstance.
goodbye Flying Mule 262's,Fw-190s, and other secretly hoarded goodies.

THIS is the year my collection REALLY becomes one bad ass mutha!

The only things that seem to be late to the table representation wise is MORE FLYING BOATS, Pre-war planes, and stealthy stuff especially x-craft.
If any manufacturers are reading this I can safely say it's o.k take your time on that stuff because it is going to take ALOT of time at my computer to pre-order,order,confirm,shop,ship,and hide most of the stuff coming in and out of my house in 2008. I can live for a couple of years on all the delectable goodies coming in 2008.

Don't worry Corgi it will take you till 2009 to keep up with your promises no worries I have Century Wings and Hobbymaster to ease my pains.

We need a Pre-war Hawaiin PBY Catalina Corgi, you know silver with yellow wings.....it's o.k maybe next year or the next take your time really will require a mold tooling just put that under your pillow for now.

Yes guys and gals THIS is going to be my best year in collecting. I honestly don't think it could get much better UNLESS..................

A company anounces in 1/72 (o.k 1/144 for some of these) that they will make the following:

A B-29 Superfortress,Emily flying boat,C-130,C-141,C-17,C-5, Jolly Green Giant, or a Short Sunderland.

Only THEN could it get much better.

Thanks for reading my rambling.

I have to agree..It looks like Phantoms and Crusaders could be real money and space-suckers this year....... I really hope I don't have to start stripping to pay for this stuff...

Re: My thoughts on collecting in 2008

The first two Phantoms from HM and the A-7, F-8 from CW will bring my collection into the modern arena. Not counting the two F-86s and F-100s from Matchbox, and the Dragon F-18 I have. The Skyraider from Gemini will also hurt the bank account.

Re: My thoughts on collecting in 2008

I don't want to even think about what I am going to want to buy in 2008. Between the aviation related books and the diecast that I am sure I will want, and the fact that I have absolutly no will power, I might as well change my screen name to FUBAR.

Re: My thoughts on collecting in 2008

2008 for sure is sounding like it will be one of the best years in a long time.
I'm really running out of space for these as it is....
Carousel WWI fighters would be a plus in 2008 and can't wait for Century Wings A-7's & F-8's & Hobby Masters F4 Phantoms
and Corgi's "Friday the 13th" Hailfax and white PBY Catalina....and so many more.

Probably not, Skunky.......getting paid for NOT stripping, now THAT is a possibility!

Looks like its time to add another display case.

Talking Re: My thoughts on collecting in 2008

With all these great models slated for release in 2008, it looks like it is time for me to be more judicious on how my limited space is allocated. This is going to be very tough -- especially for one who likes the 4-engined birds!

Cool Re: My thoughts on collecting in 2008

Agree totally with you Louie-now how to pay the piper without the BOSS lecturing me on where the devil I'm going to put stuff. New shelves, please. Two recent purchases; C1's Fokker DR-1 (Udet) and Nieuport 11 (Baracca) have really turned me onto the WW 1 era of flight. I'm looking forward to the Corgi releases. Jumping way into the future, so to speak, I've pre-ordered the HM F9F-2 and the CW A-7.
