Secret Agents also fall into a distinctive category. Here, my favorites are the British import, "The Avengers" and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.", the latter only during its first season, before the show turned into a spoof of itself.

I remember these! I used to watch them too. This thread is bringing back memories.

Re: My Favorite TV Series Of All time

I might also have included a documentary category. Aside from NBC's "Victory At Sea", does anyone remember the CBS series, "Air Power" or the syndicated series, "The World At War"?

I have the CBS "Air Power" series by Walter Cronkite in DVD. "The World At War" is also available in DVD but IIRC, this was a BBC production...correct me if I'm wrong?

FlyXwire,

"The World At War" was a landmark production from Thames Television in conjunction with the Imperial War Museum. It would be in my list along with (in no particular order or genre):

Doctor Who
ER
Hill St Blues
Star Trek (orginal series)
Thunderbirds
Stingray
The Office
Band of Brothers
The Sweeney
Fawlty Towers
Steptoe and Son (UK Sandford and Son)
Dad's Army
Top Gear
Simpsons

Re: My Favorite TV Series Of All time

Have to agree with Magnum, especially the show that focused on that Marine Phantom Pilot who ended up chasing the bad guy with in a Mustang, probably one of my favorite shows and an inspiration for me to become a flier myself.

Other great shows,
Ba Ba Blacksheep
Mash
Tales of the Golden Monkey (remember that one, historically inaccurrate as it spoke of Flying Tigers in 1938, but filmed in Hawaii and you have to love the Goose, even though there were no Zeros then).
Quantum Leap (Sam was way too nice, but Admiral Al was the man, especially in that episode when Sam leaps into Al.)
Dragnet
I Dream of Jeannie (who wouldn't want a Jeannie)

And of Course the Dogfight show. 2 live in Ladies later, I have the DVDs and wouldn't trade em for either ex.

And I just realilzed, the majority of my list were put out by Belasarius Productions, ie Don Belisario, who is responsible for JAG.

Miniseries.
Best of All Time for Flying Piece of Cake (Battle of France in Spitfires, but aside from that Goofer, a first class look at an English Fighter squadron early in the War.)
Masada
Peter the Great (set course a lifelong interest in Russia and helped along one in history)
Marco Polo (definately set off my wanderlust from an early age...and sparked my interest in History)
Heat of the Sun (Colonial Kenya in the 30s with a lovely Brit lady who flies a Tiger Moth....what's not to like)

Aloha,

Aloha,

I love that miniseries! The Hornet Squadron flew Spitfires instead of Hurricanes according to the author - Derek Robinson who penned the story. Another of the author's
non-fiction story I would definitely like to see translated into a similar miniseries production is "Goshawk Squadron".
