Re: New Ikea bookcases/display cabinets

I have a Billy bookcase from Ikea. I needed something for my 1/72 armor collection and looked for something with glass doors that was affordable to me. These fit the bill and are also expandable, especially around a corner. I plan on someday getting a couple more.

I did look at the others, but for me having something that is fairly easy to more around is also a benefit.

I never thought about getting additional glass shelves, but i have gotten more wood ones.

Re: New Ikea bookcases/display cabinets

I also have a Billy bookcase without the glass doors. At present only 2 of the shelves have diecast on them, have to share the rest with wife and kids. Also have a Detolfe that I am going to modify ( thanks to the ideas from fellow forum members ) . I was also thinking of getting a few more Detolfe's and joining them together to make 1 long glass cabinet. I figure a bit of plywood/ finished pine planks and some nice finishing trim on the top and bottom, a touch of stain and it just might look half way descent.

Re: New Ikea bookcases/display cabinets

Drill some more.............

Sometimes you can't- if you get the Bille with the glass doors you have to give up some of the space for the door brackets for example.

I'm in the process of setting up a pair of Detlof cabinets in my new office space. The additional shelving won't arrive until after the holidays but once I'm all set up I'll post some images.
