What an Unexpected Surprise!

A good friend gave me 2 completely unexpected Christmas gifts today: the tail hook from an F-14 and a section of fuselage skin from a B-52 (see pictures below). His wife's father worked for decades at AMARG (Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group) near Davis-Monthan in Tucson. He acquired these for me from stored aircraft. The only question now is how to display them.

The edges and surfaces of the tail hook are sharp and jagged from all the traps so I will have to sand and grind it to get rid of the sharp surfaces. What do you folks think about painting it new? Or would you leave it as it is?

Re: What an Unexpected Surprise!

That is awsome.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Very OC if I was lucky enough to own such artefacts they would be left as is... each scratch & ding in the pieces recording moments of a past life

Agreed! I would mount those things on my wall as trophies.

I'm gonna have to agree with all above. Leave 'em alone -- that's history! (SO lucky!!)

I agree with all of these posts, OC. Don't you DARE do a thing to them. ('course they DO belong to you, not us....but since you asked....)
