787 is a really neat aircraft, when will they go into service & what airline will be the first to fly them?

Re: Who works in a Comercial, General or Militray aviation job??

I used to work for Pratt & Whitney in CT, then Williams International in MI (cruise missile engines, small business jet engines, various gas turbine programs). Got to work on the start up of Eclipse Aviation and met Burt Rutan and a few other notables.

Went to work for Ford Motor Company (back when they made money) and now work for Land Rover in the US.

Sometimes, I really miss the aerospace business...

Re: Who works in a Comercial, General or Militray aviation job??

I have been in French Civil Aviation Administration since 1992.
My first assignment was at the AIS (Intl. Notam Office), then from 1996 I worked at the Air Navigation Directorate, in the department in charge of ICAO affairs.
Since 2000 finally, I have been working at Brest ATCC at the Quality of Service and Safety dept. (The study of ATC incidents : AIRPROX, TCAS, etc...)

I also used to be a keen private pilot (about 200 hrs logged), but I have had to suspend flying in 2001, and still don't know when I will be able to take to the air again...

It should go into service next year. ANA will be the first operator.

Every now and then I look up from my computer in awe at the size of these airplanes and the facility that houses them.

Yep. Most people don't know a 13B from a hole in the wall, though. And I'm pretty sure it would mean something completely different to Army-types like Shawn.
