A tale of two diecasts (C1 Wildcat & EI P-51B)

Hey guys,

Yesterday I received two planes from Aiken's: Carousel 1's F4F-3 Shields and Eagles International's P-51B Patty Ann. Both are 1/48. How they look?

Re: A tale of two diecasts (C1 Wildcat & EI P-51B)

The Mustang is very nice but a bit of a disappointment from all the great press I've read the past few years. My main complaints are the gaps at the wingroot and at the airscoop under the fuselage. The landing gear is also a bit wobbly and the gunpowder effects are heavy.

The pluses are very sharp details, working flaps, a great fitting canopy, and great subject (the B version is my favorite, with the Allsion-engined P-51A a close second).

Nice pair you have ther Ara1. I really like the overhead shot showing how sleek and narrow the Mustang is compared to the Wildcat.

The Wildcat was the dark horse and really impressed me. This plane has a very intricate finish and is done very well. The landing gear is wobbly and I will have to consider gluing it in place (a shame as the wheels up option looks great on the 'Cat). Kudos to C1 for producing the little-seen -3 variant!

This plane is going to look great next to my three pre-war Hobby Master Buffalos, pre-ordered and due in January.

Note the Wildcat comes with Elmer Plugs.

Thanks Skydriver, you are right! And I'm reading a great book on the Mustang, "P-51 Mustang, Production Line to Frontline" (Osprey). Talk about a fine horse with a slim line!

Nice pictures and nicer looking planes. Have to give some serious thought about picking up a Wildcat like you have.

Thanks CC. If you have any questions as to features or views, let me know and I'll respond.

The USN prewar motif has become a trend in the last 2 years: Franklin Mint's SBD, C1's F4F-3 and now HM's Brewsters. Although I am not sure if FM's SBD is an early enough variant to warrant the prewar scheme, does anyone know?

I love all the USN planes of the era and especially 1/48.

Nice pics Ara...
One thing to note is that the last 2 EI Mustang releases are preassembled, so the gap problem shouldn't be an issue..

Thank you, so maybe I should work a bit at fitting this, as I have some modeling skills left over from My Previous Life... a bit of filing maybe? Will do it? Thanks Harry.

I know you mentioned having a pre-order on the two HM Lexington Buffalos. Just curious if you picked up the HM Saratoga Buffalo?
