Cool Re: Quiz: Can you Name This Weapon?

Anyway, the comment about Python being the ultimate wheel gun was directed towards the quality of workmanship, not the power of the load. Pythons are as precise as clockwork, and the two I have do not have any drag marks on the cylinder. Drag marks and S&W seem to go hand in hand, unfortunately.....[/quote]

I had these on my MR73 too (it's an improved S&W after all) : Something to do with the design of the locks...

Nethertheless, the Manurhin MR73 (and the prohibitive German Korth) has been the only 357 mag revolver to be as well made and finished as the early Pythons.

It is well known that the quality of interior finish on late Pythons had significantly deteriorated compared to the early ones.

The Python used to be the prestige revolver "par excellence", and remains a myth.

But it has been overtaken by European competitors and probably S&W Performance Center products...

The decline in quality of the Python is a shame. Both of mine (Blue 4" and Stainless 6") are older models, so I can't really comment on the newer issues. I think they are all made in the Colt Custom Shop now, so you'd think the quality would have at least remained as good as in the past.

Quality was outstanding until the 80s.
I have never owned a Python, and considering the disastrous PC policy in France and the EU, probably never will (unless I emigrate to the USA...!).

But I would love a 4'' barrelled "serie 70s", because the weight of the 6'' version is excessive for me (must be more comfortable however when shooting 357 mag...), and it's sufficient anyway for 25 meters leisure precision shooting with 38SP WC.

Moreover the silhouette is more balanced...

Re: Quiz: Can you Name This Weapon?

I feel we must have the same taste for traditionnal materials and superior craftmanship... (unlike today's throwaway guns... )

Have you ever tried one of these, the finish is as breathtaking as the price :
