What New Planes Do We Really Want?

Trying a different tack, I trolled through the recent polls and wishlists in the threads on this forum to see if there were consistent patterns in our stated preferences for new diecast planes. I stuck to the 1:72 scale as this provides the largest number of realistic possibilities. It was readily apparent that a simple tally would not work, since many posts name only one or two planes while others list dozens or more without any indication of priority. Also, some members are far more active in this area than others and many posts do not distinguish between serious diecast-makers and the likes of IXO or Model Power.

After some thought, I decided to make a subjective evaluation of what I saw in the threads and come up with an interpretation of the findings, which ,of necessity is subject to debate. So here goes. If we were to conduct a poll for the most wanted 1:72 scale diecast planes under well diciplined conditions and leaving out any IXO entries as well as already announced planes, the winners would probably be as follows:

WW II: Post WW II:
Single engine: IL-2M Prop engined: F8F Bearcat
Twin engine: Beaufighter Jet Fighter: Mig-15
Four engine: FW-200 Condor Jet Fighter-bomber: F-105
Jet Bomber: B-47

What do you guys think?

I would buy 5 into the 7 types mentionned.

A 1/72 Fw 200 or B47 would be too big (and probably expensive...) for me.

On the other hand, I would love a 1/200 B47 !!!

Re: What New Planes Do We Really Want?

I congratulate you on the amount of tallying you did to come up with that. Though I would buy some of the aircraft mentioned, few of them are my ultimate choices, with the exception of a MiG-15).

Talking Re: What New Planes Do We Really Want?

I don't know -- not too much here strikes my fancy. I may consider a Beaufighter -- maybe -- but would prefer others first. Other than that, no sale here.

You must have a heck of a lot of time on your hands to go through ALL those posts!! Wow.

FW 200 Condor and maybe a B 29. Both in 1/72 scale.

Thumbs up Re: What New Planes Do We Really Want?

As I said in a previous similiar thread, "I know it would be big, but I still would like to see and have a B-29 in 1/72." This was a great aircraft, and as all of you guys know, played a major role in ending the Big War!

Re: What New Planes Do We Really Want?

Gemini needs to give us the 109Gs for sure. Graf and Hartmann Tulips, Hans Marseille's Yellow 14, Gunther Rall's, Nowotny, Trautloft, Krupinski!

Turn out some more aces Gemini. Please.

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

Re: What New Planes Do We Really Want?

I'd vote for the B-29 ( Corgi ) in 1/72nd scale as well. I would really like Gemini to make a OD P-51B/C OLD CROW too. DML should do a Gabby P-47 bubbletop. And for fun, how about a DML Boyington P-40.
ALIBI FIRE : A 1/72nd All black Carpet Baggers B-24J from Corgi, a HM Atlantic grey on white Avenger.
