Re: Your #1 pick for single engine WWII fighter

A supremely detailed F4-U Corsair -- preferably with folding wings (one can dream).

Yes! An F4U Corsair just like Tamiya's...but in diecast metal. That would be incredible!

A nicely detailed 1/48th P-51D Mustang with 100% totally accurate dimensions all the way around including non-anorexic landing gear struts, tires and wheels with perfectly-sized and fitted doors....I know this is evidently asking the impossible, but that's what I would like...

A F4U with birdcage canopy in 1/72nd would be great, Gemini or HM. Just make the tail be a part of the body and not seperate like the Hellcat. Also we are in need of a Helldiver. So either one I'd be happy.

Re: Your #1 pick for single engine WWII fighter

If I must stick to only one plane, I would go with a P-40E for symbolic as well as practical reasons. Symbolic, because this fighter was our mainstay when the issue was in doubt. Practical, because interesting schemes for many nations can be done. As for scale, I prefer 1:72.

Ah - Cruver Collector - I see what you are doing. Very interesting. This is very similar to what we have been trying to do with "The Poll". Kind of testing the waters? This looks like the beginnings of a list from which to choose from.

We can just call this an unofficial poll. Single engine WWII fighter selection fairly narrow and should be easy to keep tabs on.

Thumbs up Re: Your #1 pick for single engine WWII fighter

I'd have to say a Hawker Hurricane in 1:72 (any Mark) and I already have the one I covet most (Bader's Mk I). In fact, Corgi has a very wide range of really sharp looking examples out and about. Hands down, my favourite WWII single engine fighter aircraft.
