Single seat vs Two seat aircraft

Concerning the aircraft that were built in both single and two seat versions- are there any two seaters that you like better than the single seaters?
Personally, I think the MiG-15UTI, F-5B Freedom Fighter, Mitsubishi F-2B, TF-9J Cougar, T-33, TAV-8B Harrier and TA-7C look better than their single seat counterparts. But, I rate the A-4 and TA-4 equally in terms of looks.
Any other opinions on this subject?

I'll add to your voice for 2 seaters. Most look cool.
Let's not forget the F104 (CF104)
I have the Dragon 2 seater F 16... Like it a lot.

Re: Single seat vs Two seat aircraft

Ye old Messerschmitt Me 262 was a nifty looking plane, but the 2-seater night-fighter version was absolutely WICKED looking. Definitely my fav. 2-seater version. Booya!

Re: Single seat vs Two seat aircraft

If its a bird that started life as a single seater, I generally prefer it stay that way. Like the F-18, F-15. Those that were two seaters from the get go have grown on me, like the Phantom and Tomcat.

I think the Super Hornet looks better as a twin (F), however I prefer the legacies in their single-seated (A/C) garb....Don't know why that is, ...I just do.

I really hate the looks of the TA-4

Re: Single seat vs Two seat aircraft

Single seat all the way, if it was designed that way to start with. Can't think of any plane that looks better as a two-seater when there is a single seat version, at least in jets.

But I'll keep watching this thread, maybe someone will come up with a counter-example (not so far, though).

Thumbs up Re: Single seat vs Two seat aircraft

Yeah -- the T-33 was my fave two-seat variant. Just super! The small towns where we lived used to get visited by the RCAF Red Knight in the mid-60s (now THAT'S a model I could go for!) who did amazing aerial acrobatics. That was my first exposure of the T-33. Sweet.

Re: Single seat vs Two seat aircraft

I like two seaters just because they offer another aspect of the aircraft. A two seat F-104D,Mirage or A-7 with the Canopy hinged open on the left would be nice. I do like the looks of a two seat F-18 and it has become one of my favorites right after the F-104. The two seat Mirage is a close 3rd.

Re: Single seat vs Two seat aircraft

I always liked the look of the F-105G over the standard F-105.

I agree with you about the F model Super Hornet, it looks much better than the single-seat E model. For some reason the E looks off balance with the intakes so close to the nose. Kind of like a turtle barely popping its head out.
