Re: Quiz: Can You Name This Ship?

Sure- Fletcher Pratt was big before WW2. No one seems to be quite sure what happened to all the models they built for the game. They were a mix of 1/600 and 1/1200.

I have a copy of the Flecher Pratt's Naval War Game rule book that was republished back in 1976. Had a group of friends at the time and we used old waterline models to play the game.

I played Harpoon back in the mid 80s but never found enough people who were interested. Also played the Avalon Hill version of Jutland a bunch- the board game without a board. Interestingly the most popular wargame in my circle was a World War One air combat game called Blue Max. Quick and fairly simple to play. Everyone enjoyed that one.

OK- I tried to be sneaky on the last three and you guys figured them out. So have to get harder. Try this one:

Could this be an British Astraea Class Second Class Protected Cruiser?

Nope. Though you have the right type (cruiser) and constructor (Britain).

Re: Quiz: Can You Name This Ship?

Correct. They look somewhat like the US Navy Burkes but as pointed out above have differences including a different style of mast.

Yeah, I'm OK with modern stuff, but boy, some of the older ships you have in these thread... Talk about obscure (to me anyway). Fascinating in any event!

Let's try a British Apollo Class Second Class Cruiser this time. My second go after this would be a British Eclipse Class Second Class Protected Cruiser.

After further thought, will go first with the Eclipse Class Second Class Protected Cruiser.

Is it the Bon Homme Richard?

Yes it is. I had a lot of trouble finding a decent painting.
