I had some plastic destroyers, PT boats, and tankers that floated. The guns the the destroyers fired little plastic shells. The set also had a submarine that you could load a plastic torpedo into and by pushing on the conning tower fire it off. Had a spring inside to provide the propulsion. If I ever saw that set on Ebay I'd be bidding!

The solution's simple, tanknut- quit buying diecast for a few months so you can buy an in-ground pool. Then you can play with your ships.
Here's some more fun you can have- buy a sub to go along with that ship. A couple of hours before you get in the water to play with the sub, get lunch at Taco Bell. You can then make all sorts of bubbles to simulate emergency surfacing...
And don't forget to bring your wife into the pool while you're playing with the sub...
