Where do you do the most of your X-mas shopping?

I've already completed most of my X-mas shopping online and I was wondering how you do the majority of your holiday shopping.

I do about 60-65% of my shopping on-line. The only things I shop for in person are gift cards. I get in, buy'em, and get out quick.

Re: Where do you do the most of your X-mas shopping?

On-line hands down:

1. Save on gas, sales taxes, as well as on most pirces.

2. Often get free or at least low cost shipping--sometimes to the place where the gift will end up.

3. Shop whenever you decide.

4. Easily compare prices before buying.

5. Avoid the Christmas crowds.

Talking Re: Where do you do the most of your X-mas shopping?

Being centrally located in a city of 4 million (+/-) most (75-85%) of mine can be done in person, largely for three reasons:
1.) Due to the nature of the people I am buying for, most items can be found at good prices in or near my neighbourhood, and
2.) I have a thing about shopping and supporting my community first. If that cr@ps out (for whatever reason -- usually selection), then I go online.
3.) Shipping costs and sometimes brokerage fees can make the 'sweet price' no different than at home. So I save myself the hassles.
When JPN is Christmas shopping for himself though -- I often find myself having to get whatever it is online, although I DO still search out my community first. Oh yeah, I forgot 4th reason -- I leave shopping for others so late that no one can deliver in the time left!!!! Gotta make my Xmas diecast list up first and that takes time!

I follow the same SOP guideline as above.

Re: Where do you do the most of your X-mas shopping?

While I do most of my diecast buying online, for christmas I try to shop at local boutiques and mom-and-pop retail stores to support the "home town". This year, being our first year in Petaluma, there are plenty of options to choose from for unique gift ideas. For the kiddies, though, I'll probably shop online for the specific toys they want that aren't carried locally. And then there's Kodak Gallery online for photo gifts of the kiddies for the family.

I'm also one of the nuts that doesn't think it really feels like christmas until you go to a couple toy stores in December...

Re: Where do you do the most of your X-mas shopping?

Here's the fine example of my shopping journeys:

It starts off when I buy from on-line retailers to avoid crowds.

Then, my wife drags me to the mall for shop in crowded retail stores.

This is probably true for quite a few others on this forum...

Re: Where do you do the most of your X-mas shopping?

I live in the middle of nowhere, literally. If I want anything, other than the basic necessities of life, I either have to travel 4 hours to a big city (Duluth being the closest) or shop on-line. I'd like to shop locally, as the community urges me to, but, there's only so much Christmas shopping you can do at the local
hardware. BTW, right now, windy, heavy snow predicted for today and tomorrow. Try shopping in that s**t!

You must be from the Ontonagon area.

I did the 9 month month winter bit--at least the SE Wisconsin version for my first 21 or so years. Even there snow between November 1 and the day after Easter was never a surprise. That is one of main reasons I moved south!

In the now quite large Austin, Texas, we have only one locally owned hobby store that I know about. It's been around since at least the mid-70"s. I don't feel much local love shopping at the national or regional chain stores.

O so true Cav,

Dragged around , what do you think of , do you like this, ooo that would look really good on Aunti Alice, how about this for my mum etc etc etc.
Then of course because you spent the week before Christmas in all that foul air you go through Christmas full of the cold virus and feeling like s..t!

Lorraines birthday is on Christmas eve so I have the problem of buying two lots of pressies!
Its a darn nightmare, I thought about a new ladle for her cauldron but maybe buying kitchen utensiles as a present is not such a good idea.
Then I thought about some "go faster stripes" for the broomstick or a new bell (in case she does any low flying).

The point is its so easy to please us men , we are creatures of simple tastes, but WOMEN sheesh, how on earth do we please em?

The clocks ticking and I dont have a clue what to get her, well what do you buy the girl who has everything, (she has me aint that enough)?

God Bless America.
