Tamiya America Die-cast????

I found this 1/48 ME-262 that is suppose to be made by Tamiya America.
It sells for $159.00 but is now 50% off. I haven't heard of this line of planes before and a 1/48 at this price???
Has anyone any experience with this line of planes?

Its not diecast, but pre-built plastic models from Tamiyas Mastercraft line..

There are a few members on here that collect their armor line which is a little more reasonable when on sale and they can probably comment on Tamiya's build quality..

As Harry indicated, it is plastic, with metal components (struts, aerials, weighted balast). Tamiya is top of the line. This is an outstanding price for this model, I have never seen it cheaper.

Re: Tamiya America Die-cast????

A professionally-built, quality plastic kit will beat any diecast out there hands down....The big problem is (in addition to being expensive) they're generally far more fragile, and trying to get them shipped to arrive intact is the real bugger.

Re: Tamiya America Die-cast????

As Skunky said, the quality of a professionally-built plastic kit is great. I have the Tamiya built P-47 as well as several of the Tamiya built 1:48 tanks and the detail is superb. The P-47 is not one that you want to handle often due to it's light weight but the tanks have metal hulls and are screwed into a base so they can be handled easily.

Ohhh.... that hurts that I missed that deal. I was at a seminar today, not by my work PC, missed it completely! IXEC got a great, great deal.

Masterworks Corsair arrived at my door today intact! If anyone is still looking for this, Micro Macro Mundo in Florida has them in stock. They are becoming difficult to find.

I agree with Skunky... this one beats all 1:48 diecast models I have. The detail is incredible. However, there is one other drawback: the graphics are water-slide decals and mine have some silvering around the edges. While the paint job is much better than I could do, I believe I could have worked the decals a bit better.
