How To Hide An Airplane Factory

During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant to protect it from a Japanese air attack. They covered it with camouflage netting and trompe to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air.

Re: How To Hide An Airplane Factory

I hope no friendlies needed to find the runway in a hurry. That's gone too. Must have been a bit disconcerting if unfamiliar with the cammo and trying to land.

Ooops!

I have seen this before and must admit it still amazes me as to how creative we can be.

Thumbs up Re: How To Hide An Airplane Factory

I have seen the Boeing version and it was quite cool in how deceptive from the air it was. This, I have to admit, is the first time I've seen 'under the sheets'. Very impressive!!!

Where did you find these shots? A web site? A book? I'd be curious to know, as the U.S. was very clever during that war! Thanx!

Re: How To Hide An Airplane Factory

I heard a story about this from my Grandmother who worked in a aircraft factory during the war...This is the first time i have seen photos of
a factory in camouflage...Very clever idea to do that..
Thanks for posting these pictures.

Re: How To Hide An Airplane Factory

Like JPN, I too have never seen the pics "under the sheets." (kinda sounds dirty, doesn't it) Very interesting, thanks sharing them with us.
