Re: On a serious note: Is diecast collecting an obsession and/or addiction?

In American vernacular, 'housebreaking' generally means teaching the animal not to relieve themselves inside your house. I am unsure if, on the other side of the pond, it is defined as teaching one's pet to break into other people's houses. Although that would be pretty sweet.

Jim isn't housebroken...Lorraine chases him all over the place with a pooper-scooper and a bottle of Lysol.

Reminds me of a quote I saw on another forum:

Well, the forum has returned to normal... good of you two to finally come back in fine form from your long vacations.

Re: On a serious note: Is diecast collecting an obsession and/or addiction?

My wife accuses me of being addicted. I believe that her viewpoint is somewhat skewed. However, I offer the following for your consideration:

If you buy planes that you don't like for the sake of "having them all", you are compulsive, obsessed and addicted.
If you buy planes when you should be paying bills with the money instead, you are compulsive, obsessed and addicted.
If you can't decide to spend your income on groceries or planes, your are compulsive, obsessed and addicted.
If you have marital problems because of financial hardship caused by your hobby, you are compulsive, obsessed and addicted.

I have flirted with the ragged edge of the criteria listed above. I put a few planes on a credit card a few months ago and am still paying for it. So I am probably at least addicted. On the other hand, it WAS a screamin' deal...and I can quit any time I want.

..but if you're still paying credit card interest a few months after, doesn't that pretty much dilute the "screamin' deal" aspect of it somewhat?
Skunky's diecast purchasing rule #1 - If I can't pay for it up front, I don't buy it...no exceptions to this rule whatsoever (I don't care if it is a Corgi Collector's Club gold-plated Mustang)

Well yes, of course. Sort of. What it really means is that I could find the tongue-in-cheek smiley.
