Radial engine powered motorcycle.

I ran across this photo on Google Images but the page it was associated with was unavailable so I don't know anything about it. It was too interesting to pass up.

Re: Radial engine powered motorcycle.

I saw that in person last year at Oshkosh. Pretty wild.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

It looks like it would have the turning circle of an oil tanker a far more impressive use of an aircraft engine was done in the 1960s when someone built a life size replica of FAB 1 the Rolls Royce of Lady Penelope, the power unit was a Merlin from a Spit the owner would only quote the top speed as "over 200mph".
N.B. I seem to remember the vehicle had the official approval of Rolls Royce.

That bike looks wicked. I had the opportunity to ride 3 bikes this week. A Honda CBR 600, BMW R 1200 GS and a R400000 (divide by 7 for US$) Big Bear Custom Chopper. Gotta say that chopper was tough to ride, too much of a stretch to the gear lever for me, but it got plenty of folks out of their houses when I took it for a spin around the block. From a riding perspective the normal bikes are much more fun but if it's heads you want to turn, get the chopper.

Re: Radial engine powered motorcycle.

That radial engined motorcycle looks interesting, but how 'bout a ROTARY engined bike!!!

Ps. I assume someone can get rid of the 100 or so "posts" from ebay crawler, PLEASE! They are very aggavating, and, I am sure, break some forum rules.

Back in the mid 1970s Suzuki built a single rotor water cooled bike the RE5 which was approx 550cc capacity, it was a large & complex machine for a mere 550 its physical size & weight elevated it in to the 750/1000cc class with fuel consumption & price to match.
I test rode one when they first hit the UK & found it to have a high centre of gravity, this combined with disc brakes that did not work in the rain caused some concern on my test ride, its performance was only equal to a normal 4 cylinder of equal capacity though it felt smoother & more relaxing in a straight line, the exhaust note sounded like a cross between a motor boat & a well controlled fart, the model only lasted until 1979.
