How many planes in a Detolf ??

Well Jim, if you're reading this and it's still the 11th you should perhaps look at the 1/48 Eagles International Polish P51B/C Mustang at 'The Flying Mule' as it still qualifies for the 20% 'British Forces' discount and there is only one left (I received mine today and it is mighty purty) .

CARDO STOP IT AT ONCE,

Are you trying to get me shot at dawn?

I have just about pushed my luck as far as it will go on the home front.

I set up the new cabinet and of course filled it up with planes. Oh I see the investments have gone on show was the first comment. The next was more chilling, well if you think that now you have your new cabinet filled and on display that you can start hinting about another one THINK AGAIN BOY!

I get worried when she calls me boy, that usually means I am about to be severely beaten by a rather large rolling pin.

BTW I managed to get 55 planes in the Detolf cabinet, all were stored in the loft. (there are many still up there but dont tell) I think my mistake was to bring them out all at once.

I think I only survived because she had just spent the weekend at the Legends show and was wined and dined plus we stayed over and I took her around Cambridge and dined her some more.

Oh well its all good fun.

A big thank you to all the guys that posted about how to adapt these cabinets, it works a treat, 8 shelves in total now, and a big thank you to all the guys that helped me build up the P40 collection. They sure do look pretty sitting in there, of course the GMP takes the top spot.

(I wonder if I could sneak another of those past her)?

God Bless America.

Re: New Additions to Your Collection

After all the oohs and ahhs about the CW Tomcats I just couldn't take not having one anymore -- so I ordered two! (I am a sucker for free shipping...)

Got the Jolly Rogers launch Config (203) and the Grim Reaper bombcat.... very, very nice. I like the "anytime baby" look of the launch config, and that bombcat is just too cool. They do blow away Witty, Dragon, Revell... granted for nearly 3x the price of what I paid for those.

Re: New Additions to Your Collection

Very nice!
I would like to have the 1/48 F-4J and F-15J models!

Regarding the packaging: I prefer the old CDC ones (no window). They are easier to use and you have no hassle with the screws!

Besides, have you posted pics of your collection yet? I would like to see the array of F-104s.

Maybe but no one is allowed to laugh.............

Re: New Additions to Your Collection

Me too Jim. How long between "investment" acquistions before your wife "calms" down? I'm in the hole about $800.00 smackers right now. It will take me 8 months to get out (if I don't buy anymore models!!) How can I wait 8 months???

After reading all these I feel so much better.......about my recent 1/48 CDC/FM F-104's that I bought.....I would like to know about the DeTolf cabinet I missed that on

We're hijacking the thread (mods feel free to move to a new one) a bit... but to me it's not about the quantitiy you can stuff in one of these. I have one, and I only have a dozen models in it -- mostly large scale stuff (1:35, 1:32). I added a top light, but no extra shelves and it gives the bigger models a real showroom feel... I'll post some pics in another thread later.

55 seems rather... aggressive :-)

On the other hand I have about 100 models in a billy cabinet with glass doors and it looks pretty cool...

Hi Elmer, yes its an Ikea Detolf cabinet, its an easy job to do. The metal bar/rod side frames just need a rod welding in between the existing ones at equal distances, more rungs in the ladder is a good way to describe it. rub them down and respray using a can of silver spray paint.

Then go to the local glass shop and order 4 more shelves, fix in a top light and there you are!

I will try and post a photo when my better half allows me some spare time.

My only complaint is that there is a large gap each side of the door that will allow dust to get inside ,

Elmer its like trying to read weather when it comes to reading women. All I know is that I have to serve a suitable period of penance before I dare buy again.
Part of the penance is to take Lorraine out to dinner plus a few trips to the coast etc. How many times depends on how deep I am in the mire.
I always put this time to good use by checking on the market and looking for any bargains.

Do you ever get the feeling that we men are constantly being out maneuvered by our other halves?

Hi Pappy, my problem is that of lack of space so I have to stuff em in, I am only allowed a small area for my hobby, Lorraine is correct when she says that if I had my way the entire house would be full of planes. My point is that I see nothing wrong with that, her point is that I do as I am told!

I must say that I do like the look of all those 1/72 WW2 planes all packed together, to me it looks very cool.

God Bless America.
