Skunky, this story died down a month or so ago. The Supervisor who proposed it was laughed out even in leftist nut house I call my hometown. I think the primary reason was that Fleet Week brings in several million bucks into city coffers.

So wasting inordinate amounts of jet fuel, terrorizing refugees, veterans, children and pets while possibly causing death and severe injury isn't as important as millions of dollars. At least they stand by their convictions.

I live in Lawrence, KS which is often referred to as the Berkley of the Plains and it is indeed a very liberal city but even they aren't this nuts. Funny stuff but at least someone with common-sense prevailed.

Between this and the City not wanting a Battleship to sit in port as a memorial, I say this. Next time your city is burning because of an earthquake, don't call on the government and military to come help you out. Send the Fleet to another port, somewhere where they will be welcomed and not thought of as a quick boost to the local economy. Scratch another city I'll never visit in this country.

Your loss - Apart from the afore mentioned crackpot supervisors it has to be one to the most beutiful cities I have ever been to in the world.
