Italeri?

Hey has anyone got any info on this line of 1/100 scale, they look interesting some neat aircraft.

But I am guessing based on price and looks of the pictures they are plastic with no gear?

Still look kinda neat.

Thanks to a heads-up on another thread today, I just bought a few from Bad Cat Toys, which is now carrying some of these models for about $9 apiece. I already have an A-7 from this line and can testify that it is rather cheaply made, without much detail and very light, being mostly plastic. Also, you get no choice on the landing gear. It's wheels-up. Still, there are a number of models in this series which none of the serious diecast makers has touched so far and these were the ones I just purchased. Check it out but proceed at your own risk.

You got that right. I may get a few of the Mysteres. Depending on what kind of time I have, converting one into a Sa'ar would be a good winter project.

Re: Italeri?

I dug out my A-7 from storage and took a close look at it. Actually it's not all plastic, as one might expect, but has a decent heft to it. I would say that it is a fairly close match, quality-wise, to the original 1:100 scale Armour models. I'm not terribly pleased with the stand, however. It holds the model very loosely.

Question Re: Italeri?

Does anybody have a list of all the 1:100 models made by Ge Fabbri (Italeri) ?

They used to make an extensive range of helicopters too...

Re: Italeri?

I Just received my shipment of Italeri planes from Bat Cat and I am generally pleased with the detail and add-on ordinance, fuel tanks, etc. However , when I removed the Israeli Mystere from its packaging, I noted that the decals were apparently placed over the dull finish without first applying glosscoat or some other glossy finish. Result: a very unrealistic looking shiny application. Worse, the underside of the model has many metal scraps on it which were simply painted over. Result: lots of unsightly lumps, slivers and even a few small pot holes. It took me about fifteen minutes of sanding and gluing to eliminate these eye sores and my next steps will be to repaint the underside---not a very difficult task-- and deal with the decal problem--probably with some spraying and maybe a few dabs of flat paint. Finally, I'll add a bit of weathering and after about a hour's work, not counting drying time, I'll have a nice addition to my collection--albeit another drone. Despite such flaws, which are to be expected in mass produced low price product of this sort, I think that the Italeri models are good buys, especially when they are rare planes not made by anyone else. But you may have to do a bit of work to spruce them up.

Re: Italeri?

An update on the 1:100 scale Italeri models now becoming available as apparent reissues of the old GE Fabbri line. I noted earlier on this thread how I had to correct some serious flaws on my Mystere--which was successfully accomplished. Since then, I have examined three other models---the Meteor, F-5E and F-80. The F-5E would have been fine--except for decal silvering issues- had it not been for a totally smashed and split open canopy which they tried to fix with crazy glue. I've sent for a new one since what I received is hopeless. The Meteor was a lot better and is now more or less presentable with new upper wing decals, aligned lettering on the fuselage sides and yellow wing flashes. The F-80, however is a mess. The decals are just slapped on without any thought about alignment and there are rough areas that need to be sanded down plus a big gash under the fuselage. Right now this model is drying out after undergoing emergency surgery, painting, etc and will probably be salvaged. My basic message is buyer beware. These models were designed well enough, considering their low budget mass production orientation, but their assembly and detailing was done without any sign of quality control and, evidentially, in tremendous haste. I find fixing those that can be redeemed a creative challenge, but if you just want a fairly decent model to display, watch out.
