I also noticed that the CGI animators rendered modern flight helmets (HGU-50/P) worn by the F-4 jockys in Vietnam...but that's just
'splitting-hairs' for me and it really doesn't detract the overall quality of the episode....

I definitely look at these more as "entertainment" rather than history lessons

I agree. But I'd rather watch Dogfights! than Human Weapon or Ice Road Trucker any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

It is too bad that the shows have so many silly mistakes in them. Maybe we as a concerned aviation community could get a business license and outsource their fact finding for them...

Re: "Dogfights!: Season 2 on the History Channel

Dogfights is an excellent series, but one that could easily be made even better by having them previewed by a couple of buffs before going final. Such simple effort to "proof read" would result in noticeable improvement in the accuracy of the show. In addition a couple of the non-pilot narrators on last night's episode were more than a tad weak. They also missed simple things that would have improved the show, like mentioning in the last segment that the Redtails were now flying the improved P-51D (or K?), which among other things has six 50 cals instead of just four.

I don't think in was on Dogfights but on another series, which uses the same side by side comparison of opposing aircraft, that was both incomplete and misleading. When comparing the armament of the two opposing fighters, they failed to mention the cannons on the German planes, comparing only the machine guns on the two birds.

Dogfights lowdown...

Just heard from one of the producers:

There are 3 more episodes of season 2 which are in production right now. Then there’s a two-hour special to wrap up…but that appears to be the last of it for Dogfights.

I have seen ads for show called 'Battle 360' on THC. Could this be the comparable replacement?

I would surely hope so? I guess will find out soon enough.

As long as I can pick up the entire season 2 on DVD for a good price I should be able to console myself over the cancellation. It is a great show - too bad we won't see a Season 3...

In regards to Dogfights, I enjoyed the series too...but honestly, how much more can they really show without it starting to get redundant (not to mention the narrator was really starting to annoy me). I think it's run its course...............................

Nah, I think HC should 'milk it to death' that show! There's plenty more materials left to do WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Six-Day, Yom Kippur, Bekaa Valley, Desert Storm etc., etc., et cetera... So far the show has been all American-centric with the occasional peppering of Israeli airforce stories. What I would really like to see is the otherside's experiences from the Lutfwaffe, Russians and British perspectives! Plenty of fodder material there alone, no?
