Re: "Dogfights!: Season 2 on the History Channel

They probably dropped it because the leaf eaters out there were offended by the glorification of war and killing etc.. etc... yada yada. Afterall its better to scare folks with boogiemen, big footed ape like monsters, and things of the deep. For deep down in their hearts they hope those are fake, and they really don't have to deal with it. But war and and evil people, doing evil things.... far worse to deal with than Oogie Boogie.

More likely the ratings sucked. It was a well done program, but to the casual viewer I can imagine it was extremely dry viewing. Air to air tactics isn't most people's cup of tea, or coffee if you prefer.

Here's the thing. For the first season, Dogfights was the highest rated show for History Channel EVER! This is from their own advertisements and press. Then, inexplicably, they moved the show from late Friday to late afternoon Thursday, without telling anyone. Ratings plummeted, and History Channel suddenly believes that the show is is not popular anymore, rather than drawing the logical conclusion that they aren't advertising the new time slot enough, or that the new time slot SUCKS.

I wasn't aware of those unfortunate circumstances, bsmith. Up here in Canada it's on Thursday evenings and late at night over the weekend. We're still on season one.
Hell of a way to run a railroad if you ask me.

Common sense vs. moneyed-interest. The debate rages on...

Re: "Dogfights!: Season 2 on the History Channel

No word on whether there will be a Season 3, but at least the Dogfights! site has been updated (after months of nothing). They sure aren't spreading it out though - check the dates...

Dogfights : The Bloodiest Day Airs on Monday December 03 11:00 PM

May 10, 1972 was the biggest day of air combat in the Vietnam War. In addition to great "turn and burn" battles, the dogfights involve some remarkable electronic warfare as F4 Phantoms, F-105s, and numerous other aircraft as they descend on North Vietnam employing advanced radar jamming equipment, smart bombs, and other high-tech gear. Watch as famous battles are recreated using state-of-the-art computer graphics. First-hand accounts, rare archival footage and original shooting supplement the remarkable computer graphics.

Dogfights : The Bloodiest Day Airs on Tuesday December 04 03:00 AM

Dogfights : P-51 Mustang Airs on Tuesday December 04 11:00 PM
In the aerial battleground of World War II, the P-51 Mustang proved itself to be the most famous war bird in history. Take a look at three of its most memorable battles. On November 2, 1944, Capt. Donald Bryan leads a group of P-51s escorting B-24 bombers to their target deep inside of Germany when he runs into a huge gaggle of Me109s on the attack. On June 23, 1945, Second Lieutenant Bob Scamara takes off with a flight of Mustangs from Iwo Jima. His group is jumped by seventeen Zeroes. On April 7, 1945, pilot Richard Candelaria becomes one of the first Americans to face the jet menace. First-hand accounts, rare archival footage and original shooting supplement the remarkable computer graphics.

Dogfights : P-51 Mustang Airs on Wednesday December 05 03:00 AM

Dogfights : Dogfights of Desert Storm Airs on Wednesday December 05 11:00 PM
A generational leap in technology and strategy is put to the ultimate test over enemy airspace in Iraq. The air combat of the future begins with America's first large scale air offensive since the Vietnam War. On the first night of the war an Iraqi Mirage F1 attacks an unarmed EF-111. Watch as F-15C pilots take on a pair of Iraqi MiG-25 interceptors. Finally Captain Cesar Rodriguez takes on MiGs, in a classic Beyond Visual Range engagement that illustrates the awe-striking power of modern weapons technology.

Dogfights : Dogfights of Desert Storm Airs on Thursday December 06 03:00 AM

Dogfights : Secret Weapons Airs on Thursday December 06 11:00 PM

Just my luck - I am travelling Monday to Thursday of that week. I guess I will have to wait for re-runs or more likely the release of the DVD...
