Re: "Dogfights!: Season 2 on the History Channel

I remember when a show called "Wings" use to be on the discovery channel...How i miss them days now....
Maybe someone will buy the rights to Dogfights and put it on their network.
JP

I have religiously recordered just about every single episode of "Wings" when it was broadcasted originally at the Discovery Channel many many years
ago, and it even spawned it's own satelite network and became known as "Discovery Wings" channel...yes I still do miss those days! Like you, I too would
like to see some other network acquire the rights to the "Dogfights" series and hopefully continue to produce more topics that can cover different eras and
events in the annals of aerial combat and warfare. That's my take on it for now...

And, I agree about the Sci-Fi Channel. They no longer show the good old shows; they completely mishandled the new Battlestar Galactica, and it seems that all they show is CRAP like Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

Damn, and I just bought the first 2 seasons of SG1 on DVD.

I recorded a few of these episodes too. They are probable some of the better aviation history documentaries out there. Liked both Wings of the Luftwaffe and the Russian version (Can not remember it's title right off hand). I am surprised that no one has put these out on DVD.

Thumbs down Re: "Dogfights!: Season 2 on the History Channel

Dogfights was the one show I tried hard not to miss each week. That sucks. I also think it brought alot of these models we collect to life for us. Probably even helped drive sales and create intertest. I guess we are showing our age. Maybe the newer generations care not for the knights of the air stuf. Sad if true.

Re: "Dogfights!: Season 2 on the History Channel

You're right about BG, Timbo. It is one of the best shows on TV. Let me clarify my previous statement. When I say SFC completely mishandled BG, I meant in terms of not showing it in a good time slot. I can understand moving from Friday at 10 pm, but to Sunday at 10? Most of the people I know who are up past 10 on a Sunday are watching HBO.
It also seems that when BG got going, SFC seemed to support it less and less, forcing the creators to try to wrap it all up next season. BG could easily go another three or four, and stay interesting, if it was given the proper support by SFC.
But, what SFC is doing is nothing new. CBS allowed Northern Exposure to go down the tubes, and NBC allowed The Pretender to wither and die due to misguided programming decisions.

I would rather they wrap it up sucessfully after 4 seasons rather that let it go on-and-on and never get to the end. Problem with letting shows go on too long is the creators and cast get board and leave, and the stories and writing start to become stale.

Ooops!

Maybe they could wrap up BG by revealing that they were the Ancients who built all the Stargates.

Re: "Dogfights!: Season 2 on the History Channel

I heard it from the grapevine:

"Just got a roundabout egram from one of the Dogfights producers (a new guy, apparently) via one of the series consultants. There'll be a P-51centric (!) program the first week in December with a five-night blitz to follow. I'm assuming that will involve all 8 previously unaired segments."

Hoping it will be this episode:

THE BLUE-NOSED BASTARDS

The 352nd fighter group flew P-51 Mustangs with a distinctive blue-nose paint scheme that gave them their name. They became one of the most decorated fighter squadrons in the European theater. Including Don Bryan's ace-in-a-day mission. Also, Alden Rigby and Sandy Moats down four German planes apiece in a legendary dogfight.
