AK-47, I'd go with that one too...
Cheap, simple, etc...

Can we try with real bullets now?

Re: The most effective weapons systems in the last 50 years

You know, I just thought of this...how about NODs, laser range finders, and GPS systems? Would they be considered a weapon system in the criteria of this question?

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

How about the individual Soldier, Sailor, Airman, and Marine that uses all this stuff. Without thier smarts it would all sit on the shelf, in a rack, on the flightline or tied off to a dock.

Have to go with the B 52 with its diverse mission capabilities. Last I heard there was even talk of making an electronic jamming variant, not bad for an old airframe.

What do you get when you have a B1, B2 and a B 52. Two bingo numbers and a Strategic Bomber.

How about the C-130 in all its get ups, especially the gunship! C-17 comes in close too. M1A2 Abrams, Leopard 2A6, Callenger II.

Re: The most effective weapons systems in the last 50 years

At first I thought RPG......but that was around in WW2.........if you count the Bazzoka and Panzerfast as RPG's.

50years puts us to 1957, so that makes the choice harder.

I would therefore go for the cruise Missile.

If you know where the target lives, you can hit it.....or get so close it don't matter. When you look at what those things can do, without the risk of lossing a pilot, they have to be very effective. I bet Bomber Harris would of likes a few of them.

How about the M1 Garand.

And to a lesser extent, my personal favorite, the Enfield No.4 Mk.I (T).
