DAMBUSTERS---remake

A remake of 1955's THE DAM BUSTERS about the RAF Lancaster raid on the Ruhr Valley dams is underway by Peter Jackson (THE LORD OF THE RINGS). Jackson is executive producer and said much of the movie will involve CGI effects.

When I was a kid, I had Revell's 1/72 scale model of one of the Lancaster Dambusters including the skipping bomb. It was a great model.

Yes -- quite true -- and many of us here are waiting 'patiently' for the release which seems to be taking forever. There is no question that that particular raid has fired the imagination of many of us here.

As a kid I had the great experience of building that very model by Revell as well in 1966. I have to say, with all honesty, I had better luck with the Airfix one a bit later though. Today, many of us 'time poor' collectors have opted for the Corgi version of AJ•G/ed932g -- either the original 1:72 issue with the 'backwards camouflage' or the recent release with the Sights and Sounds base. I have the latter with the model sitting on its U/C. Personally, I am looking forward to the April 2008 release of Plt Off Les Knight's aircraft AJ•N (AA32615) as a companion to AJ•G.

Naturally, the movie on DVD will be a popular item in my place. I am fortunate enough to have a wife who finds this aviation stuff very fascinating .
