Re: GI Joe- No longer an American Hero

Shawn said that the new GI Joe can borrow a pair of Birkenstocks and a fanny pack, if he asks real nice......

Yep, they are on the wall with the heads of other kills. When you shoot one of these PC windbags all that is left are their Birkenstocks and fanny pack. Not much of a trophy but what the heck. But the stealth fighter pilot Cpt. Puff Puff can use them as his prop in the movie.

Re: GI Joe- No longer an American Hero

While I do agree that the GI Joe movie will no doubt be horrible, I'm pretty sure it is based on the 80's toy/cartoon/comic, not the classic "doll" from the 60's and 70's. The 80's version was also know as "Action Force" in the UK, and product was altered slightly for whatever nation it was distributed in. The GI Joe toys I had all came with "Canada" decals to put on them, and some of the file cards listed places in Canada as the character's place of birth. I think it's kind of cool that they are going more the NATO route with the movie so that fans worldwide might be able to have a more personal link to the characters. Hopefully it works out as well as Transformers did.

One of my friends growing up had the Skystriker jet and would never let me play with it. I thought it was kind of bitchy of him at the time, but now I can understand why he might not want to share, just like I can understand some of the anger coming out over (what seems to me) a pretty pathetic attempt to cash in on 80's nostalgia. Boys and their toys, boys and their toys...

Re: GI Joe- No longer an American Hero

While GI Joe has had many names in many countries, it is an American Icon. What is next? Is Mickey Mouse gonna move to the Hague? Inspector Clueso is now German? William Wallace was really an Englishman? Its all BS !!!!

Ironically, both of these GI Joes are part of the "Man of Action" series that came out in the early '70s. The "Man of Action" series was an attempt to disassociate GI Joe from the US military, because of the Vietnam War, and make him an adventurer rather than a soldier.
