MD, here is how it would sound like on the other side of the pond cousin. 'BLUDDY 'ELL'!!!!!!!!

How about, those are minging! Or those aircraft are leaping! The designer was a real plunker! Will those work?

Re: Ugliest Monoplanes of WW II

Mike, of the French types you posted, it's a close call between the Farman f.2233 and the Bloch 210. (shuffle, rattle, rip-opening the envelope). And the winner is.....The Bloch 210!

Re: Ugliest Monoplanes of WW II

How can a nation with such sexy women make such ugly airplanes?

They seemed to have improved a bit postwar, but the WW-2 French fighters weren't exactly pretty.

Yeah, at least the modern Mirage designs are just as sexy as their French women....Oh la la!

Re: Ugliest Monoplanes of WW II

Shawn, not familiar with LEAPING. MINGING is right on. Plunker is almost right. Try 'Plonker"

Cool Re: Ugliest Monoplanes of WW II

Some Amiot 143 (top) actually took part to the 1940 campaign striking bridges and German motorized colums. They miraculously suffered few losses, unlike British Fairey Battles, wich were slaughtered over similar targets.

The MB 210 also saw limited action in 1940, due to the same shortage of modern equipment.

The Potez 650 was then the main transport plane of the Armée de l'Air. It had originally been ordered to provide mobility to the "Groupements d'Infanterie de l'Air" created in the 30's (like in Italy and Germany, French parachute units belonged to the Air Force).

Designed as a heavy night bomber, the Farman 2233 was almost exclusively used as a heavy transport by the Air Force, and for long range maritime reconnaissance by the navy. One exception however : a naval F-2233 became the first allied aircraft to bomb Berlin !
