ASU - Tuskegee Airmen Tribute - Pics

Saturday 10/27 was Homecoming at Arizona State University. As part of the Block Party, the African and African-American Studies Dept. had 3 Tuskegee Airmen at their tent signing autographs.

From left to right:
Asa Herring; Thurston Gaines; and James Bowman. Second pic is with my son and I.

Re: ASU - Tuskegee Airmen Tribute - Pics

As well as this.......

This plane (well....not this ACTUAL plane....as it is diecast) was actually flown by Robert Williams (who died a few years ago). He was instrumental in the writing and getting HBO to do the movie "The Tuskegee Airmen." James Bowman, one of the Tuskegee airmen that signed my model actually went to the same grade school and grew up with Robert Williams in Iowa. I thought it was very fitting to have his signature on "Dutchess Arlene." [Additionally for any of you 1/6th guys, I also got them to autograph a NRFB GI Joe Tuskegee Fighter Pilot figure.]

That is great Doug you got to meet these guys and have a few things signed by them...
That signed FM P-51D "Dutchess Arlene." is priceless.....
Thanks for sharing that with us.

I'm super envious, Doug! Great pic, btw...and thanks for sharing. I hope someday I'll have an opportunity to attend an autograph session with these heroes.
I hope the new film in the works from George Lucas will become a reality, too. I can't wait!
