Re: Recommending Planes For Corgi's 2008 Diecast Lineup

I'm with you Cappy (but don't forget the SPAD)! All three of these in 1:48! The Nieuport 28 IMHO is one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built. I know it would be too much to ask for a P-6E and P-12, but...

Elmer, a Spad would be good also, and I am definitely with you on the P-6E and the P-12. The reason I left the Spad out was due to my being quite happy with my two Matchbox Spads, even though they have no flying wires, etc. Other than that, I think they are superb!

Cool Re: Recommending Planes For Corgi's 2008 Diecast Lineup

I quite like the suggestion of the "Hudson", but would be even more enthusiastic about the "Ventura" !...

For the WWII era, I would add the followings :

A20 Boston/Havoc
Curtis H75/P36/Mohawk
Martin Baltimore
Ju 188
Me 410
Ar 196

And for the post war period :

Meteor T7/NF11/12/13/14
F86 D/K
Mig 19

Going along with the Hudson/Ventura, how about a PV-2 Harpoon?
Also, for WW2, the Curtiss Helldiver and the PB4Y Privateer.
Postwar suggestions, I agree with Planenutsfrog's choices. I'd also recommend Corgi to further round out the RAF/RN combat types, with the Venom/Sea Venom, Vickers Valiant, Sea Vixen, and (hoping against hope) the Supermarine Scimitar and Swift.

Ah the Javelin, way ahead of its time that one, if they had carbon fibre in those days it would have been a real winner.
it was just to clumsy in the wings and never really made the grade. too many restrictions on its capability.

Having said that ,a great deal was learned from it and put to good use, and it looks a cool bird.

Yeah, sometimes aircraft, especially cutting edge tech ones, end up being remembered more for the "lessons learned" than for the actual service rendered. Two cases in point- the F3H Demon (with its engine troubles) and the F7U Cutlass (engines, hydraulics, flight controls and nose gear troubles). Neither lived up to potential. But, I think it's safe to say that the follow-on to each of these was an unqualified success...

Re: Recommending Planes For Corgi's 2008 Diecast Lineup

Going down another path, here's a suggestion for a couple of additions to the Falklands War line, to complement the Black Buck Vulcan and Victor, and the Sea Harrier- how about an Argentine Canberra? Corgi already has the mold, all it would take is a new paint job and decals (maybe some different accessories). And, the Canberra did see some action during that war, although it didn't get the headlines that the A-4's and Super Etendards received.
Another possible Argentine aircraft (using an existing mold) is the C-130. I believe these were used for maritime patrol, trying to find the British fleet, since the SP-2H Neptunes were pretty much retired by the time of the war...

Interesting choice, the Canberra, British plane with British trained crew shot down by a British fighter. Politics Eh!

You bet! Now, what if Argentina had succeeded in purchasing the Vulcans it tried to obtain in 1981? How would that have affected the War? I'm know I'm straying off topic, but it's an interesting "what if" scenario...

BTW, Happy Birthday!
