Re: Worst war movies you have seen.

Pearl Harbor used to be top of my worst films list (such a wasted opportunity ) but this has been replaced by Flyboys.

DCRange beat me to it. Flyboys has to be the worst "f''ing" aviation war war move of all time. The acting was awful, but the flying scenes were absolutly horrendous. I mean they really sucked. I don't know who the director or cinematographer were but they really screwed it up.

Apologizies to anyone here if they were associated with "Flyboys".

Re: Worst war movies you have seen.

Even it is not a real war movie, my vote goes for "THREE KINGS" with George Clooney. Such an film.

We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives.

Re: Worst war movies you have seen.

Totally agree with the John Wayne sentiments.....He was alright as a cowboy, but as a G.I. ...I don't know who was a bigger over-actor - The Duke or Van Johnson.I would rather listen to William Shatner sing "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" for two solid hours than spend that time watching any John Wayne war flick.....

Proud perhaps, but otherwise truly excrutiatingly awful ... 'The Green Berets' comes to mind as possibly the worst of the worst .

Anyone seen the entertaining '70s movie 'The Wild Geese' with Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Roger Moore (?) ... (thankfully, not John Wayne)?

Re: Worst war movies you have seen.

Consider yourself lucky, if you haven't seen ANY Russian post-1991 WWII-themed movie (with a possible excpetion of Penal Batallion and Cadets mini-series) or any Indian war movies (with an exception of LOC: Kashmir). Even the worst Hollywood crap would like masterpiece compared to that waste of film.

On the flip side, pretty much ALL Soviet war movies post-1950s range from good to excellent, and the modern Russian ones dealing with Afghan and Chechen conflicts are pretty darn good as well.

Regards,

Sergey

Re: Worst war movies you have seen.

On the John Wayne front the war movies I like him in have something in common- They Were Expendable and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon being the the two that jump to mind. They are both John Ford directed movies. Ford always seemed to bring out the best in Wayne.

One problem most war movies have is that the actors are all too old for the parts they are playing. A good example is Wayne playing Lt. Col. Benjamin Vandervoort in The Longest Day. Wayne was 55 then, the real Lt. Col Vandervoort was 27 at the time of the Normandy invasion.
