Scariest Looking Planes of WW II

A number of combat aircraft used in WW II looked mean and just plain nasty- especially when one found one of them closing in on your tail. Some even enhanced their already scary looks with painted on shark mouths, grinning dragon beaks , etc. Among the most intimidating, in my book, were the U.S. and British P-40s, the U.S. P-38 , P-61 "Black Widow" ( when one could see it ), P-47, B-25J( Pacific Theater versions)and the F-4U. Also on my list, are Germany's FW-190A and D, and its ME-262A, plus the HE-219 nightfighter-as with our P-61,providing you could see it coming. The RAF's Beaufighter and USSR's IL-2M round out my most scary list. Anyone care to chime in on this?

I'd say the one shooting at you is the most scariest.

Like Shawn said, anything on your 6:00 shooting at you!

Re: Scariest Looking Planes of WW II

For looks alone, gotta be the Bf-109 -- especially the earlier models, without the aerodynamically improved cowling. Mean and uuuuugly...

Re: Scariest Looking Planes of WW II

I think i would not want to have a Fw190D-12 on my tail...That baby packs a punch .
The D-12 was armed with a 30mm Mk. 108 cannon firing through the propeller boss and two wing mounted 20mm cannons.
I say that will sting ya.

Re: Scariest Looking Planes of WW II

Even though it wasn't a fighter for pure scare factor the B-25H would scare the life out of me: 10 forward firing .50's and a .75 cannon not to mention rockets, etc. I think that would have loosened the bowels for me.

P-61 Black Widow. "Only the Yanks would have the balls enough to call something that big a fighter."-RAF pilot while looking at a P-61.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Oh yea...That P-61 Black widow will knock your socks off...
Your looking in your rear view mirror and this is the last thing you will see....

Yep, I thought of the P-61 as soon as I read the thread title
