Most Aesthetically Pleasing Plane of World War II

I've always regarded Italy's Mc-202 as the most aesthetically pleasing combat plane of WW II. Its clean lines and graceful look contrasted starkly with opponents like the U.S. P-47 or Great Britain's Hurricane, and the Mc -202 could have been extremely effective if it had competitive armament (most had only two machine guns ). Other candidates for most beautiful plane of WW II include the Spitfire-especially the late war marks- along with the P-51D, RE-2005, FW-190D, Mosquito, Yak-3 and even the Zero. I realize that beauty is often in the eyes of the beholder, so maybe you guys would make different choices. What say you?

Can you find a more aesthetically pleasing aircraft than this Spitfire which lives in an Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow? I think not!

I just can't think of anything that tops the P-51D in this category.

Skunky!

You did not look at the pics which I posted.

Listen to me: Skunky, you are becoming sleepy. Your eyelids are heavy. Look at MoMo's photographs of the Spitfire.....you know you wanna!

Now think and say :

Spitfires good, Spitfires good!

P51 D's ok, but no way,

does it beat the Spit,

No S--- !

Yes, FlyXwire,

Ain't she a beauty? She lives round the corner from me in Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museum. Ten minutes walk from my door. Whenever I get sick of looking at French Impressionists, I wander round to this gallery and there she is....a sight for sore eyes.

Some people were concerned about her hanging on wire when I posted an article about her on the Hanger some time ago, but I talked with some experts and some Museum officials and they have assured me that she is quite safe as she has been specially braced and strengthened to take the weight at these points ( unlike most other women! )

My vote still goes to her ( despite Skunky's vote for the other British Designed classic, the Mustang! )

I just can't think of anything that tops the P-51D in this category.

The P51D is really cool and one of my favorites. The Fw190 D9 is also very attractive along with the Macchi 205 and Yak 3. Ultimately though, the Spitfire is a tough nut to crack. I particularly like the clipped wing Griffons, Mk XII and XIVs.

Re: Most Aesthetically Pleasing Plane of World War II

I have to go with the Spitfire. Especially the BoB versions.

My second choice would have to be the Walrus.
