I'm not an a-rod fan, but didn't he originally play shortstop -- they could, in theory, sign him and play him there (getting rid of Lugo... who at least starting hitting better as the post seaon went on, and I do like)...

But I'd rather they let someone else put up with his upkeep.... and I absolutely want them to hold onto Mike (boy did he get himself a nice raise the the MVP)

Whoop -- Red Sox! (Now lets get another one--unless the cubbies want to win one next year, that is... I don't want to be too greedy)

(Actually, I am a died-in-the-wool Red Sox fan so to speak so my motto every year is still "Anyone but the Yankees, please!")

Pappy-

A-Rod isn't an outstanding 3B - solid, not outstanding - and I doubt he has the range for SS - Jeter doesn't anymore in my opinion, either. A-Rod is a great talent. For all of his faults he is a great hitter and can still be a dependable - not Gold Glove, but solid - 3B. He had the chance to sign with Boston but chose New York instead. I won't even mention - whoops, I did - his slapping the ball away from Arroyo in the LCS. He is dead to us in Red Sox Nation. While the Yankees may need former Red Sox - Johnny Damon for one - Boston doesn't need their refuse.

The arrogant remark "The Red Sox can have their Nation. The Yankees have the universe."
-- Hank Steinbrenner, New York Yankees senior vice president says it all for fans of the Sox as I am sure you agree, lol.

Now that's just nitpicking, isn't it? -- Nigel Tufnel

Re: World Series

I hear they're re-branding all Boston Red Sox merchandise as Boston "New Yankees" merchandise...

Oh I despise the yankees as much as the next Red Sox fan, don't worry -- but I think you have to at least consider A-rod, his numbers this season were amazing. But I don't think he's good fit for the Sox and I bet they'll realize that. Mike's a much better clubhouse fit for sure, and Johnny Who? (grin).

(I'm going to chose to pretend you didn't say that Canuckle!)

Re: World Series

Hee hee! I wonder who'll buy the World Series next year? Oops! Of course I meant win the World Series next year. I can hardly wait until next season, when Boston and New York are favorites to take it all on the second day of spring training...

Come now, money's not enough -- you need talent and heart, too. Boston just happens to have all three. The 23 highest payroll in baseball almost derailed your theory this year -- for that reason alone I wouldn't have minded too much if the Indians had won it. And the Rockies are the 25th highest...
