Just thought I'd vent and see if you guys could maybe help

My employer has installed a new internet blocker at work which needless to say ruins my lunch hour Most sites are blocked but I can get on here and view threads but none of the photos show and I can't post. Any suggestions on how to fix this or am I screwed?

Re: Just thought I'd vent and see if you guys could maybe help

That really sucks Tyler. I wish I knew what to tell you or give you advice. I don't know what I would do if I could not log on at work. But, since I am basically self employed, I can do WTF I want.

In a totally selfish way, I am kind of glad that you can't log on. That is one less person who might beat me to a great deal offered by one of the other members in the "classifieds" section. Just kidding. I would rather loose out on a deal if it meant you could have access to the site. (OK, now I am waiting for some comments from everyone to make me laugh )

Good luck.

You might talk to your IT dept to see if they will allow this site and point out that it doesn't have porn or anything "real" bad about it.. Other than that, I'd say your screwed..

Unfortunately, unless you have a really cool IT administrator, you may be screwed. Private companies can do whatever they want in terms of their internet usage policy.

Well the boss is the boss.
Many companies and government agencies are having problems with employees surfin' the net in some undesirable places.
Recently had a government worker fired up here for surfing porn at work. Got his job back, .... union fought on basis that there was no written policy for personal use of internet at work and employee had not been given the endless paper trail to dismissal.
Most larger outfits up here block person usage.
Happily I work in a one person office... me.

Exclamation Re: Just thought I'd vent and see if you guys could maybe help

Again, another self-employed person weighing in and not able to offer much assistance. I can say this, though, when I speak with other employers about staff internet usage, I hear 'time wasting' coming up as the main grievance, not so much the issue of porn -- so -- let's face it friend, this place is addictive, isn't it. Admit it now --

Personally, I spend far too much time here, but I love it!

The IT director I have is pretty cool but getting ahold of him is the hard part. It will let me on site I just don't undestand why images and the links to post doesn't show up.

Re: Just thought I'd vent and see if you guys could maybe help

You can try using your work computer to remote access another computer - perhaps your home computer.
You need Windows XP Professional on the computer being accessed.

Here's a desription of how it works.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...moteintro.mspx

I use remote access so I can access my work computer from home, and it works great.

------------------------
Also, it's possible that another Internet browser could be used to access the site. For example, download the free program firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and see if that works.

We have internet at work but all the sites we are not suppose to go one (porn) are blocked. So I can come on here when I am not busy and see what is new

They are probably preventing specific types of content from being received.
