| If you had the resources to start your own diecast company As the title says- if you had the resources to start your own diecast company, what models would you make? What eras/subject areas would you specialize in? | |||||||||||||

| Re: If you had the resources to start your own diecast company If i was going to start a company my first plane would be a F4U Corsair in 1:48 or 1:32 and then 1:48 or 1:32 Fw190A... Don't worry i would still make a P-61 Black Widow as the 3rd release... I would stay within the WWII range for a few years then move up to the modern aircrafts of the world. May even try some WWI fighters in 1:32 range as well.I know am dreaming again it aint ever going to happened. JP | |||||||||||||

If that Corsair has folding wings I'd work for JP -- but argue that we should do a topnotch P-51D before the Widow to get some more funds in the bank before tackling that one

| Re: If you had the resources to start your own diecast company If I could open my own diecast company, I would specialize in "high-end/museum quality" 1/48 WWII aircraft.. I agree with JP that a quality Corsair and Fw-190A are sorely needed in the 1/48 market.. | |||||||||||||

Folding wings on the F4U you better believe it...Always wanted one of them too....A good P-51D tooling would bring in the money am sure.. JP

| Re: If you had the resources to start your own diecast company Since I just got my first Eagles International 1:48 aircraft ( thanks RockJock ), I would focus on 1:48 WW2 aircraft with the quality being that of EI, but with additional focus on the quality of the pilot. I would start with American Fighters trying to get out 4-6 different types of aircraft ( F4U, P-51, P-47, F4F, P-38, F6F ) with the first one being the plane of the top scoring Ace of each branch of the military. Then the aircraft of a specific pilot such as Chennault of the Flying Tigers, or Welch's P-40 of Pearl Harbor Fame. From there I would add the plane of the top scoring ace from England, Germany, Japan. Just doing the research on each plane would be fun. Finally as a tribute to my wife, I would do a bomber and feature her as the nose art. Althought I doubt many would buy it since she is pretty small on top and most nose art feature women with large boobs. ( I hope she does not read this ) | |||||||||||||

| Re: If you had the resources to start your own diecast company Well, if I could start my own company, I'd be assuming that I'd have enough capital to make some models that nobody else is making. I'd be banking on the "if you build it, they will come" philosophy. So, in that spirit, my subjects would be, in 1/72nd and possibly in 1/144th- 1) Seaplanes- there's a whole mess of them out there waiting to be modelled, like the PBM Mariner and P-5 Marlin. 2) Earlier Jets- the first releases would be covering the Navy jets and the T-33 3) Two-seaters- seems to be a lot of clamoring for the TA-4, TF-104 and others. 4) Experimental and Cancelled planes- I think there would be a (limited) market for both experimental birds and ones that didn't make it to production for one reason or another. Two I would definitely put out in this range- the YF-23 and the P6M Seamaster... ![]() ![]() | |||||||||||||

And I would go to work for JP and Pappy... anything to get that topnotch P-51D done, and then a P-61 in 1:48 scale. Then I would try to talk them into preWWII era (1930s) navy and USAAC biplane fighters!

| Re: If you had the resources to start your own diecast company If I had a small diecast company I would focus on some of the lesser cover areas. Scale would be 1/48th on all projects and planes chosen would be some of the smaller aircraft. Aircraft selection would also be favorable to aircraft that had a broad variety of paint schemes. Would also like to choose some aircraft that had variations as far as fixed retractable gear to show more complete view of certain aircraft. Models would be heavy on metal and if rigging was on real plane, it would be on the model too. Some of the planes I would shoot for are as follows: 1. P-36 / Hawk 75 - Both retractable landing gear and fixed gear. - Huge selection of paint schemes from standard US P-36 to fixed gear Thai Hawk 75 (Looks options for around ten to twelve different country markings) 2. Fokker D 21 - Fixed gear and skis. (Correction) - Large selection of paint schemes (Four different country markings to include a Republican version from Spain). 3. P-26 Peashooter - Fair selection of paint schemes, but potential for engine detail and rigging. | |||||||||||||
