Re: ebay fickleness

Part of the price swing is going to be time of year. Summer is slow for retail, folks are vacationing, etc. Once the vacation season is over, more folks are back at work and back at the computer, which means more folks are scanning ebay. The folks paying $80.00 for this bird were not on line last month, or the month before.

Agreed -- but hasn't everyone heard of google?

Re: ebay fickleness

Imagine how I felt when I e-bayed my Matchbox P-38s that were selling over a $100, only to get double digts for mine and low ones at that.

Re: ebay fickleness

I bought a 'fire-sale' 1:72 Bader Hurricane from this guy (Choate76) back in the summer. I got it on a BIN. (Then someone here tipped me off to the fact that Aiken's was selling it and I was looking on the wrong place on their site). I digress. I did look at the live link posted here and noticed that the 'weird' Temporary Closure notice was in effect again. What is this guys deal? If it isn't inventory, it is stock taking. If it isn't that it is vacation. The odd thing is -- it is always something. Maybe it's just me, but I find the Closure notices a touch peculiar. In the end, the model was A-OK but packing wasn't as crisp as others send. Merely serviceable.

This may be a stupid question but what do you mean by "Temporary Closure" notices? Does he suspend the auctions while they're live?

Re: ebay fickleness

I once saw a Dolittle Raider B-25 with a starting bit of £60 sell. $120 for the most boring Mitchell ever? Come On!

Maybe the least flashy of the all the corgi B-25's but far from boring.
The fact thats it's arguably the most historically significant B-25 off all time might have something to with it commanding a higher price.

Deals are from from dead on the bay, you can still get lucky here & there.
Not a Military a/c but I just picked up this NIB Inflight 200 PanAm 737.

IF makes the best civils on the market right now, this model MSRP's for about $75-$80 at most shops online, I got it for $41.

Not the auctions -- the delivery process. Take another look at the live link. In this particular auction he says between Aug. 18 -- 26 they won't be shipping because they are restocking their store. OK. We are well past August, to be sure, but he had a similar notice when I did a BIN earlier this summer. His 'closure' added and extra week onto my delivery. I've noticed other auctions of his where he 'suspends shipping' while he closes for a week to do one thing or another.

Not a biggy, unless you are in a hurry, anxious for the model (like ALL of us!!), or just can't wait (like me).

Again, though, everything else is most certainly above board, and I wouldn't have any hesitation doing business with this fellow again.

I don't know about that- I've seen Inflight take a lot of flak the last few months on the various airline boards. Some of their moulds have major accuracy issues and they have gotten many of the paint schemes wrong. From what I can tell in 1/200 the top of the heap is Small World. In 1/400 really depends on the airframe as some moulds are better than others- sounds like 1/72 doesn't it!

Oh, I see what you mean...I've never noticed that before, thanks for pointing it out.

Re: ebay fickleness

What I found interesting about this auction is based on the bid history, it went from an opening price of $29.99, 1st bid of $30.00, then a second bid of $55.00??!!
That's a pretty steep jump in price.

Looks like the high at the time had a max of 65 and the other wanted it bad too.

I'm stearing clear of ebay more and more, and havn't bid on anything for probably 6 months. I've found the vast majority of my stuff on-line cheaper than you'll get on the bay. I've often wondered if people do any research at all before buying - I think not.

Well at least he told you!!!

I've bought quite a bit from this guy and found him very reliable.
