I read these books over the last few months and was wondering if some the site members had read any of these titles. It is also a neat way to see if some of you may have some publications you might recommend. Here is a brief description of some of the books:

Title: Bloody Shambles
Bloody Shambles volume Two
Author: Christopher Shores and Brian Cull with Yasuho Izawa
Brief description: Both volumes go into Air Operations over South-East Asia from December 1941 thru April 1942. Great books covering opening stages of war in Pacific. I was really surprised by some of the airframes that were used during opening days of the war.

Title: Buffaloes Over Singapore
Author: Brian Cull with Paul Sortehaug and Mark Haselden
Brief description: RAF, RAAF, RNZAF and Dutch Brewsters in action over Malaya and the East Indies 1941-9142.

Title: Hurricanes Over Singapore
Author: Brian Cull with Paul Sortehaug
Brief description: RAF,RNZAF, and NEI Hurricanes in action over Singapore and the Netherlands East Indies during 1942.

Title: Hurricanes Over Tobruk
Author: Brian Cull and Don Minterne
Brief description: Hawker Hurricanes in the defensive role over Tobruk January-June of 1941.

Title: Doomed At The Start
Author: William H. Bartsch
Brief description: American Pursuit Pilots in the Philippines 1941-1942. I found all these books to be pretty high on the Wow Factor, but this book was a really impressive read.

Title: The Chianti Raiders
Author: Peter Haining
Brief description: Italian Air Force in the Battle of Britain. An interesting read on the ill prepared Italian forces during the Battle of Britain, that can be a little humorous at times at how poor their showing was.

I finished a friend's copy of Doomed at the Start recently. What an eye opener. Intellectually, I realized that operational losses in the Pacific rivaled combat losses, but it's quite a different thing reading about it.

I've also reread Fire in the Sky by Bergerud, both First Team books by Lundstrom and Shattered Sword in the last three months. Highly recommended.

I re-read 'Reach for the Sky' recently, and yes, it may seem a bit naïve by today's standards, it still holds up as a good general read. Currently I have 'Lancaster Down' on the go. It is a great saga!

Reach for the Sky is a fantastic read. Thank you for bringing that one up, it has been years since I sat down with this book.

Yeah, the copy I have is a treasured one I had as a kid in the mid-60s. Just a terrific story of determination. Of course selective attributes of Bader made his way into my world as one of my role models. I wish I could get my grubby mitts on the movie in DVD format with Kenneth Moore.

Hi Nuttz, Try the Spitfire Emporium in Kitchener or The Scottish Loft in Niagara on the Lake.
Both carry lots of Brit movies.
Spit Crazy will amaze you with their line -up. It is not all on their site.

I own all the books I listed. Wish there was a local library that carried such titles, but no such luck there. I Iike to own books like these because it is great for reference material and you never know when the urge to read a great book again might occur. Currently I am reading "Nightfigher The Battle for the Night Skies" by Ken Delve. Book covers Night Fighter history starting with WWI period thru modern day. Fairly ambitious bit of writing to cover such a broad period of time, but all in all not to bad. After that I will jump into Dimitriy Loza's "Attack of the Airacobras Soviet Aces American P-39s & The Air War Against Germany" . Book looks fairly beefy, so hopefully will make for a good read. Have three other books on the list after that.

Just finished up another fairly interesting book Aces of the Reich by Gordon Williamson. It is interesting in that it breaks it down into land, sea and air categories. I found it interesting that sea category included E Boat, Auxiliary Cruisers and U Boats. Land section had the expected tank aces, but also infantry. Descriptions were fairly short, but but so was the book. Currently working on volume one of Stackpole Military History Series on Michael Wittmann.
