Re: Worst Piece of WW2 Kit!

Shawn, the Scots are greater consumers of tea than the English! In fact, there has been a demographic shift in the South of England. Coffee is now more popular than Tea.

How the mighty myths tumble like English wickets before the host of Australia!

Was this the case in WW2? But since the Scots fell under British Command they are guilty by default, unfortunately.

In WW", there was no coffee! Those stocks of coffe which were held in stock, or which could be imported in small quantities, were held in reserve for designated members of the armed forces such as bomber crews, submariners, escort ships, etc. who needed instant caffeine fixes to stay alert. Everyone else drank tea ( which was rationed! )

British forces were, by and large, better off than the civillian population because their daily rate of calorific consumption was regulated to be better than the civil population. There was little chance that they were ever short of tea, even in the desert!

Was there Mountain Dew back during the war?

Cap. Eddie

There wasn't even any Coke in the UK until some came over with the Americans in 1942! ( but don't worry, we had Irn-Bru, Vimto, Dandilion and Burdock and warm beer !

Sure, Cap'n Eddie! The Bad Guys used it during prisoner interrogations. "We haff vays of making you talk! Sing or you drink this!" *shudder* I'd've cracked at the mere sight of a two-liter bottle of that stuff...

Re: Worst Piece of WW2 Kit!

I like it myself, though I do not drink it very often. Do you realize it actually has orange juice in it? I do keep a 12 oz. can at work, however, for those rather rare days where I get a little sleepy. A can of Mountain Dew takes care of that pronto!

Re: Worst Piece of WW2 Kit!

How about the British 2 pounder anti tank gun? My neighbour manned one of those in the desert, piece was his description.
He told me that even at point blank range the shells just bounced off German armour, well he should know.

God Bless America.
