Re: Worst Piece of WW2 Kit!

Grew up on Glenn Miller as my Dad is a huge fan. He used to listen to him during the war on AFN (American Forces Network) on a small wireles set when Miller's Army Air Force Band would be broadcast in concert.

Now thats what I call real music, I always play my Glen Miller CD on the way down to the Legends every year just to get me in the mood!
Da da daaa de de di de di da da daa,

i think I will go and put it on now.

God Bless America.

Talking Re: Worst Piece of WW2 Kit!

I quote short-fuse from the " British Army Rumour " site.

He is listing the 10 worst tanks ever! I don't know if I agree with him, but he seems to have picked a few pups!

How about it, Guys, do you agree?

1. Cheiftain AVRE particularly the Willich variant ( there is no need to explain).
2. Crusader (a 60 tonne nightmare)
3. Sherman (Zippo lighter that it was).
4. Wippet
5. T-62 (very crap replacement for T-55 that didn't work).
6. A-7 (German WW1 Tank).
7. Valentine (moved at 4 MPH and had a pop gun).
8. Jagd Tiger (not technically a tank buy 80 tonne mechanical nightmare).
9. KV-1 (Russian early war behemoth that the Germans totalled in seconds).
10. Maus (100 tonne mechanical nightmare again from our Aryan cousins 1945 vintage)

Just one man's meat Shawn ( or another man's poison )

Most " Top 10, 50, 100, " lists are meant to make you spit blood, if you are in the know. It's just another way of generating debate ( and heat! )

I've moved this debate to : " Nice things to Talk About " thread because it includes tanks from outwith the 1939-45 era.

Check it out.

Re: Worst Piece of WW2 Kit!

True, but just once I'd like a show without the hype and hero worshipping. Afterall, the British evaluation of both the Tiger and King Tiger were not all that favorable.
And what tank if not the Sherman, would have served the Allies as well or better? Should the west have imported T-34s? The Military Channel with thier puppet historians, don't help much.
I've had "discussions" with the guy here at Ft.Benning on his role and the list in general. He admits its bunk, but the producers have their agenda. So whats the point of participating if your just gonna be a puppet??

Let me guess what the GUY said : you have to write a script based on the archive film available and/or a tour round available existing surviving examples.

We've all seen these shows, and we've all read between the lines.

The truth is that a well-researched show on tanks and/or planes, with a presentable ( i.e. " acceptable " ) commentator, would cost a lot of money to make.

Expertise costs money and time and money and time.

I wish that I had a tenner for each so-called " documentary " on WW2 that I've seen which relied on someone making up a script to follow arbitary pieces of old newsreel films which are presented, more or less, in the same edited form in which they were originaly presented. Also, how many times have you made a move to throw something at the screen when a voice-over makes a fatuous statement about the combat which is illustrated by an anachronistic piece of film from 1940 which is supposed to be a visual reference for 1945!

Sadly, they don't make documentaries for us, they make them for the world at large and, as we know too well, the world at large is oblivious to our vaguaries, demands for accuracy and thirst for the " Definative " documentary!

No mo they don't make documentaries for the world at large - they make them cheap and cheerful to increase the return into their pocket book - any old crap will do.
