What is your favorite JAAF fighter.

At times it seems that the Japanese Army Air Force does not get same coverage as their naval counter part. One thing I find interesting about the JAAF is that they did seem to have a slightly larger variety of aircraft types on their roster, I am just curious as to what others might choose as their favorite aircraft from the JAAF. My choice would probably be considered slightly off the beaten path as far as first choices go. I really like the looks of the Kawasaki Ki.45 Toru "Nick". In no way is it one of their better fighter planes, but it's twin engine layout and nice looking greenhouse make for a sharp looking plane. So now that I have spilled the beans on my first pick, just curious what aircraft fellow members would pick.

Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien "Tony" would be my favorite JAAF fighter!

The one on fire, trailing smoke headed for the quick and sudden stop with the water or ground.

Re: What is your favorite JAAF fighter.

To me, the most interesting JAAF fighter was the Tony, however as a collector, I also am a big fan of the nimble Nate.

Thumbs up Re: What is your favorite JAAF fighter.

The "Betty", if for no other reason, one of the few that was actually placed in a combat theater lost the JAAF's greatest naval hero, Admiral Yahmamoto. It too was a neat looking twin, but producton never really got off the ground before wars end.

Ki-84 Frank, probably the best widely produced fighter (in a relative way) the Japanese had in WW II. I like the looks of it as well, although the Tony is also nice in that respect.

Now why did you go and say that? I darn near fell off my chair laughing so hard I almost p!ssed myself. (priceless! )

Re: What is your favorite JAAF fighter.

Ok, as it stands, we have 1 for the Ki. 45 (Me), 2 for the Ki. 61, 1 for the Ki. 84 and 2 inputs for 2 IJN aircraft. Thought there might be a little more interest in the JAAF aircraft as apposed to more popular IJN aircraft. Oh and we also had honorable mention on the Ki. 27s behalf.

Re: What is your favorite JAAF fighter.

Great question CC.

I like the Frank and Tony also, but my top pick??? Well I'm tempted to shout out the Ki-67 Peggy because she was reputedly very manuverable and used as a fighter (no I'm not thinking of the Ki-109 version).

I can't pick the Goshiki because I don't see a lot of history with that plane, I can't pick the Tojo because the shape doesn't appeal to me...

Oscar's a bit too old school for me, the Nick's a bit too standard looking, the Gekko's a Navy plane, (otherwise I'd be voting for Irving). I'm not a Ki-46 guy either.

OK, I'm rethinking this. It's gotta be either a Ki-61 or Ki-45, although granted, I just said the Nick wasn't my cup of tea. I suppose if the Nick was in dark green livery with Hinomaru on white field x 6, I'm in with that bird.
