Re: Most Underrated Aircraft of WWII

There are all sorts of WWII planes that don't get the glory that they deserve.

Most of the aircraft listed previously would get a vote from me. I would like to put in a plug for the Piper Cub, mainly because my grandfather was an artilleryman, and the Cubs improved the accuracy of the "tubes" with their accurate spotting.

Indecision is the key to flexibilty.
Flexibility is the key to airpower.
Indecision is therefore the key to Airpower.

Re: Most Underrated Aircraft of WWII

Lucky for us it had some engine and production problems etc due to the late war blockade and bombing of Japan..

Uuuuhhh... I don't think luck had anything to do with us blockading and bombing Japan (to decrease their industrial/war production capacity). I think that's what we actually wanted to do (I think...).

Oh, but I forgot, the Americans did it so it MUST have been luck!

Absolutely! The L-planes may well have put more ordance on target than the 8th Air Force by virtue of the number of artillery tubes they directed. There are numerous accounts of German formations that decided that the time to pack it in was when one of these guys showed up on the scene. In addition to artillery observation, they provided commanders with a birds eye view and rapid transport to remote areas. In the CBI, they performed medevac and resupply of numerous remote operating units. Without these little guys, the conduct of ground campaigns would have been seriously impeded, but they don't get no respect!

Skunky! Thank God you're OK! I thought I passed you on my way to work today, in the middle of the road ... you didn't look too good. I was gonna stop to help you out, but, you know, the smell... I'm glad you were able to pick yourself up and brush yourself off.

Nrrrm! Whoosh! Rat-tat-tat!
