Re: Blair's Agenda ... or so the story goes ...

It's OK, Timbo, I'm in favour of PR too. No party would unite with the Scottish nationalists, so I'm waiting to see if the others behave and allow the Nationalists a fair chance to govern.

British politics is nasty, Top Hat, but at least we don't get all those smiling faces wearing rugs and sporting suits which ice the top layer of the political cake in the U.S.A.

Also, the BBC radio 4 program in the morning ( from 7 to 9 ) grills politicians in a way which would be unlikely to happen in the USA because the interviewer is sharp and puts the interviewee on the spot!

What is thought of as rude in the USA is considered to be legitimate cross-examination here. The interviewer won't be swayed, and won't take 'no' for an answer. This reflects the cross-bench debates of the House of Commons and the adversarial nature of British politics.

This can be refreshingly honest and open, and anyone hoping to hide behind a smokescreen of spin is laying themselves open to ongoing public scrutiny.

I meant it when I said it was entertaining. Downright hilarious at times....

I can't even watch interviews of US politicians. They ignore the questions posed by the interviewer and just casually meander down their own spin-filled path.

I guess that when you have a media which is " owned " by someone, it isn't hard to make life easy for the politicians who you support. of course, this happens here. Newspapers support their boss's politics.

However, the BBC is paid for by the British Public, and is the nearest you will ever get to a 'neutral' media player.

Mo the Nationalist also have to not go rabidly power mad as well and things should work out.

Yes I miss listening to "Today" every morning. Was really upset when Brian Redhead died prematurely. John Humphreys and him made an excellent team.

The nearest we have here is PBS radio, but listening to that makes me a bleeding heart liberal to most of the country. That also is not owned by any corporation of individual and is listener funded and so not beholden to any special interests.

Ooops!

Timbo

Dear Timbo,

Just log on to the BBC web site and you can listen to and download all the week's programs and gems from the past. Wallow in news and nostaligia!

Yes, and the Nationists are playing it canny at the moment, but we'll see how it goes.

cheers,

MoMo
