| Re: Important must read, “ save German WWII amour Just an observation. eBAY DOES NOT ban the sale of WW2 German models and scale replicas of machines that fought in Germany. Do a search, there are plenty of models there to be had. They do ban Items that Promote Hatred, Violence, Racial or Religious Intolerance as explained on their website: "eBay has always exercised judgment in allowing or disallowing certain listings consistent with the spirit of a worldwide community. Therefore, eBay will judiciously disallow listings or items that promote or glorify hatred, violence, racial or religious intolerance, or items that promote organizations (such as the KKK, Nazis, neo-Nazis and Aryan Nation) with such views. For example, eBay will generally remove items that bear the marks of such organizations, such as relics from the KKK or certain Nazi memorabilia." Agreed.. I did a search on ebay policy and nowhere did it say anything about German WWII toys memorabilia except if the item displayed the swastika, which is an illegal symbol in many countries.. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Important must read, “ save German WWII amour I have to agree, Ebay is doing its utmost to remain as neutral as possible in this situation. If someone is offended by something, whatever happened to "Don't look at it!"? While I acknowledge the impact that the swastika has on ALL people, if its appearance on a model is simply to accurately reflect the equipment being modeled creates discomfort or causes a problem then a much larger problem exists than will ever be resolved in this forum. If my sentiments offend anyone, I apologize, but ultimately, we are responsible for what make us uncomfortable and any idiot can be uncomfortable. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Important must read, “ save German WWII amour
Items that "promote Hatred, Violence, Racial or Religious Intolerance." Sounds about as vague and ambiguous as it gets. Promote. Very subjective since it appears to be a misguided attempt at mind reading. First of all, how does an inanimate object "promote" anything? If a Swazi is deemed to "Promote Hatred, Violence, Racial or Religious Intolerance," then what's to stop them from deeming the underlying platform that carried the insignia as promoting Hatred, Violence, Racial or Religious Intolerance? Is it really such a far jump to deem a scale model of a weapons platform as "promoting Violence" given the view that a Swazi in and of itself promotes "Hatred, Violence, Racial or Religious Intolerance?" Yep, a slippery slope. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Important must read, “ save German WWII amour I was not aware of any ban on UK ebay. I have bought loads of German stuff off ebay both with and without Swazis. I do understand that the Swazi is a touchy subject, with some particularly in Germany. There is still a deep shame felt by the German people about the war and they are constantly vigil about any attempt by right wing groups to use the Swazi as some sort of rallying flag. I dont think banning such things is the answer, racism violence and religious fanaticism are usually attended by ignorance. Education education is the way forward. Show the Swazi and teach the young what it means. Remove the so called glamour that some idiots attach to it. Show them Belsen and all those other horrendous camps, tell them of all the sacrifices made by those who fought against it. Show them what humanity is capable of so that they may be vigilant also. Banning and hiding such things are not the way. Lest we forget. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Important must read, “ save German WWII amour The germans dropped bombs on Belfast May 1941.( 1000 killed in a 180 bomber raid) .However,it does not stop me from collecting their aircraft or searching out history or feeling great pride for all who opposed them and eventually defeated them.No one should ever forget, too many political correct 'Flower Children' now control the inner workings of government and we are all weakened by the standards they have set.Let us attempt to pursue history as it presented itself in 1939 to 1945. New enemies appeared more quickly as Germany went down in defeat. Russia, ungrateful China, beligerrant N.Korea and a host of Russian satellites nations who allied themselves to Stalin. Would it be correct to collect their German made aircraft which were used against the allies.???.... AAH! pick and choose, choose and pick. Who was the best of the worst?...and why should we forgive them?. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Important must read, “ save German WWII amour Yes, jim, banning a symptom will not lead to a cure. This SS dagger is a no no on ebay, but it is historically significant as one of the few surviving Rohm Honour Blades. Ernst Rohm was the head of the SA (Brown Shirts) and was assasinated during the Night of the Long Knives, clearing the way for the SS to be the backbone of Hitler's regime. This dagger is important because it is a Rohm Honour Blade on a SS dagger. Most RHBs appear on the SA daggers. The RHBs were given to individuals who gave a high degree of personal service to the SA and its leadership (Rohm). On the reverse side of its blade is an inscription which reads, "In Herzlicher Freundschaft" (In Hearty Friendship). Beside this inscription appeared the Sutterlin script signature of Ernst Rohm. After the Night of the Long Knives, an order was issued that all Rohm Honour Blades have the inscription removed. The owner of my dagger only had Rohm's name removed, this was at great risk to his personal well-being if this was discovered. Hence the scarcity. Does this item promote hatred, etc.? I think not, but that is my opinion of course. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Important must read, “ save German WWII amour I guess they understand that if they destroy all of the concrete examples of history they can begin the work of rewriting it yet again. I am so sick and tired of people who feel the need to protect me from myself. I used to listen to extreme Death Metal and never worshipped Satan. I own several firearms and have never used them to coerce or harm another person. I have studied and read history since I can remember and never sought to build or support a philosophy based on what I learned to the detriment of others. My best friend won 2nd place at the state championship during high school for a pen and ink drawing of Michael Wittman sitting on his Tiger - inspired by the well-known photograph - and was told by the judges if he chose to depict better subject matter he could have won first. Hmmm, I wonder what they think about his designing the GPS' several of my friends have used in Iraq while deployed as he now works for Garmin designing the contraptions. I can only guess. One of the downsides of democracy is the idiots get to use their rights to suppress others as well (I am not pointing the finger at one side or the other, mind you ). | |||||||||||||

| Re: Important must read, “ save German WWII amour I am interested in Nazi history and artifacts because the whole regime is just so amazingly different from anything we've ever seen before. I've been to Germany and seen the camps. I took students. I've read dozens of books and watched, I'm ashamed to say, 100s of hours of documentaries on '30s and '40s Germany. The organization, regalia, science, manacing nature etc... are fascinating to me. This mumbo about banning this or that to protect people from certain ideas is ridiculous IMO. Let people look and read and buy........ Heck, let the run for office if they want. This detail about the dagger is an excellent example. What great history would be lost if this kind of thing became taboo. I just shake my head in sadness at the thought of this kind of censorship gaining momentum. | |||||||||||||
