| Bomber Command gets reprieve in Canada Straight from the 'here-we-go-again' file. It seems that the negative fallout of our brave airmen during the last war may be finally coming to a close -- at least as far as the Canadian War Museum is concerned anyhow. And this whole controversy has all been over some 'revisionist and inflammatory' text on a panel on display there that likens our airmen to 'war criminals'. What? Can you believe this? These airmen were prepared to give their lives for what we take for granted today. Many Canadian airmen alone made the supreme sacrifice, for crying out loud. I personally didn't have any idea that this debate was still going on over the last 20 years. (Apparently it was a hot topic here in the '80s.) Suffice it to say, if you want more info on this, do follow the link to the story in the Globe & Mail: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl.../Entertainment (Funny how this is in the ENTERTAINMENT Section, isn't it?) None the less, I personally take a dim view on 'revisionist' history, so I am glad of this amendment, but still annoyed at the countless dim-witted Canadians who continue to view that frightening war through rose-coloured glasses. And it isn't just Canadians who have total ownership on this distorted vision. I'm sure all of you have run into some form of it in your own world. Yes, there were some mistakes made, but no one entering the service in 1939 (or at any other time through the duration) had any idea that this conflict would wrap up in 1945. The current (and correct) thinking of the day was; the threat just had to be stopped. Period. What ever it took. Anyhow, that's my 2¢ worth -- the outrage, the disappointment, and the insipid final victory(?) (Aww nuts, I just realized this should have been posted in 'Articles'. Admin . . . help?) | ||||||||||||||

Reason: typo
Good observations JPN. Reminds me of the Bomber Command documentary hit piece produced in Canada some time back - "The Valour and the Horror" I think it was called. Absolute piece of revisionist sh!t full of lies and distortions. The vets deserve nothing but our respect and gratitude. If they want to lay blame for the controversies of war, start with the tyrants and politicians who through their actions or inactions get us into war in the first place. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Bomber Command gets reprieve in Canada I agree. Sounds like the new panel is much more acurate and shows respect for the Airmen. | ||||||||||||||
