Re: GeeBee R-1

I have most of the Williams Bros kits which I bought at the time "The Rocketeer" movie came out, and like the Gee Bee Z (yellow with black trim) the most.

Thumbs up Re: GeeBee R-1

Oh yeah! Now THAT is cool. Currently it is on back-order, but I put my name in to be notified upon a new shipment. I'd LOVE that Gee Bee in my collection. (Thanks for the tip)

Now we need some Supermarine Schneider Cup seaplanes (S Series, please) or De Havilland's 1934 Comet Racer!!!

Re: GeeBee R-1

around 1999 i bought a 1/72 GeeBee from Trains and Planes in Houston TX. It was very detailed all metal and had photo-etched support wires and a stand. it was extremely well made by some defunct Japanese company. It went for good money on E-bay. I regret letting it go.

Re: GeeBee R-1

Thanks for the replies, guys. I have the First Gear Shell series (except the one they didn't produce), the MP and a Maisto. Just checking for a 72nd diecast. "The Rocketeer" is one of my favorite escapist movies. Great fun. And Louie? I'm very disappointed in your short-sightedness.

Anyone know if the GeeBee R/Z-1 has/have been done in 1/72?

There is a current Boley Gee Bee Z-1 in 1/72nd scale in phony markings. The Italian company Edison Giocatolli released the original casting many years ago with realistic markings. The casting is well made but the colors are toyish for both versions!

http://markstrains.com/prodA/BOL5211.HTM although this add states that it is in 1:87th scale all Edison/Bolley planes from this series are in 1:72nd scale

RedBaron, if I remember correctly, Louie's avatar is a painting he did himself!
