Any interest in 1930s air racers like the Gee Bee

I have always like the looks of the air racers of the 1930s. Planes with names like Gee Bee, Travelair Mystery Ship, Laird Super Solution, and the racers put out by Weddel Williams. When I was a kid there was a kit put out that had two air racers and could be mounted to look like they were going arround a pylon. Very few of these racers actually have made it to die cast it would seem. Do have a couple of nice looking Gee Bees though.

I've thought of getting the Gee Bee, had it in my hands even, just never pulled the trigger.

I love that stuff.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

I like air racers a lot! Nice pics! I have a couple of them from the Hallmark Sky's the Limit series.

Why not ?

But only Schneider Trophy seaplanes really appeal to me...

Thumbs up Re: Any interest in 1930s air racers like the Gee Bee

Yes, I'm keen on this stuff too. The '30s really saw some inspired ways to get an aeroplane go faster. I love it!. In basic terms Gee Bee, Schneider Trophy seaplanes, and various other UK raceplanes are of definite interest to me -- 1:72 would be nice!

Whose got?

I'd love to see more of these in ANY scale! (Sure, 1/72 would be ideal, but I've already gotten all three of the Union Model Gee Bees in 1/48, as well as the two models at the start of this thread.) I know that Kyosho released a line of 1/72 racers briefly, though they seem to have been available only in Japan, and even there the price was rather steep.

Models are put out by First Gear and look to be 1/48th scale.

Sure me too! I still remember Jimmy Doolittle's remark to this day regarding the Gee Bee racer: "I gave her the gun...she flew like a bullet..."

I have a model of the Gee Bee racer by First Gear as well as the one made by Hallmark collectibles. I also still have the kits put out by one company whose name escapes me at the moment. Yeah, I would definitely collect a series of these in diecast. Anybody saw the movie "The Rocketeer". Check out the opening scene...
