Question Who among us plays with model trains as well?

Hi Gang,
I have to confess that I like to play with model trains as well Wheather that is a sin or not I do enjoy my OO/HO layout just like my oldest son who does some great model making as well. In fact my other two sons enjoy the same hobbies so I am really blessed. Anyway lets see who does?

Yes trains are fun too! Have a modest size Marklin layout to play arround with. I really like the look of German steam engines and also prefer the old analogue (No digital here). Have close to 90 locomotives and even have one of their super rare DL800 locomotives.

Re: Who among us plays with model trains as well?

I managed to sell off my N scale and HO layouts about 15 years ago. Quite happy just looking in store windows now.

Re: Who among us plays with model trains as well?

I currently am having a layout built for my Lionel O gauge trains. Hope to have it completed by November.

I had a train set when I was a wee lad. I combined it with hot wheels and some scratch made buildings and it was quite nice.

Thumbs up Re: Who among us plays with model trains as well?

Oh man I would not call 90 a modest number I thought I was doing well with 30 Hornby. I am restarting with 3 Hornby sets.

I think that the size of the displays is what tends to kill the train hobby for some boys. The significant others in our lives wouldn't allow for it. My train set was on a piece of plywood that took up a sizable corner of the house's basement.

ROFL!! I had to negotiate with my wife for the amount of space in our basement that I was allotted .....

The problem is that Lionels are BIG, so a decent operational layout (concerning the amount of track) takes up a large amount of space.

My UP Big Boy steamer is actually O-72 (meaning that the curves must have a minimum radius of 72"), so it won't run on my layout since it won't clear the switches!

I have been an "afficionado" of Märklin HO since I was a kid !

At my parents home, I used to have a layout : 5 x 2,5 m and 3 levels.

I currently own 24 locomotives and about 100 carriages. (Mainly DB, but also CFF/FFS, SNCF, and even an Amtrak streamliners train !)

I have always sticked to ananogue equipement.

Size and area has always been a problem for man! Maybe at the next earth summit they can address the subject I have seen "BIG BOY!" run on some layouts that if you placed it on the track one end would meet the other ok I maybe telling a fish tale there! No it seems we all enjoy the LITTLE things in life .

I am planing to build a new home in a few years and I have made a point to include a 8meter by 5 meter hobby room. That should allow me to enjoy MY Hobbies
