Cool Re: Quiz, Can you name this plane

CORRECT !!!

Yes, it's the Amiot 370 record plane.

The Amiot 350 family was designed to answer the same B4 (medium bomber with a crew of 4) specifications as the LeO 45.

The Amiot was cheaper, better suited to mass production, less complicated and fragile, its bomb bay could accomodate naval torpedos without modifications, conversion to floatplane configuration was straightforward, and it was much easier to T.O. and land !

But the LeO was choosen in the first place, officially because of a marginally higher speed and better crew arrangement, actually because LeO was a Governement owned society !
The Air Ministry being its own customer, its objectivity was somehow questionnable...

Re: Quiz, Can you name this plane

This is an easy one. it's the Yugoslavian Ikarus IK-2 fighter. Only a dozen of these were produced and some of these resisted the Luftwaffe in April 1941 when Germany invaded that country. The IK-2 had a maximum speed of 260-270 mph at 16,000 feet and was armed with a 20-mm canon firing through the prop's spinner, plus two machine guns. The BF-109s made short work of them.

Correct answer again!!!

Re: Quiz, Can you name this plane

The SM-81 in the background is a give-away. This is the Italian S.A.I. S.403 Dardo ( Dart ) which never got beyond the prototype stage after flying for the first time in 1943.

Re: Quiz, Can you name this plane

I have no reason to doubt you, Epapazian, but: why is it in German markings?

'course, sure doesn't look like a German bird.

Right on both accounts!

Since the prototype first flew in 1943, the year the Italians surrendered, the Germans probably appropriated it. Tell you what. Why don't you continue this quiz and I'll keep quiet long enough to give the other chaps a chance to participate. That's fair, isn't it guys?
