This is going to sound odd, but the only aircraft that comes close to matching the frame work of the canopy would be an Aichi E13A Jake.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Funny you should say that - as I thought the 'canopy frame-work' wasn't IL.2 - yet I wasn't sure ?

I was REALLY hoping one of you guys would identify it 100% sure (?)

As it was on a Russian website I came across whilst surfing, there was no tangible-answer, or caption under the picture.

I did a little more snooping around, yep it is an Aichi E13A Jake. It is sunk of of Palau in 45 feet of water. Just do a few searches under Jake floatplane Palau and you will find some neat shots. This was a pretty tough one to track down, looked at quite a few greenhouses before I settled on the Jake. Here is one of the photos I came across.

Re: Quiz, Can you name this plane

I just found a YouTube dive movie on this aircraft, have to scroll down to the bottom to get to it (Scuba Diving in Palau)

Cheers Cruv', many thanks for doing the research.

Makes me laugh, that the hardest challenge we've given you yet, was an inadvertant one

At one point I thought it might be a Mitsubishi Raiden, but figured it was in a Russian-Lake, so, discounted that theory.

Interesting looking wreck though, whatever.

It was a fun search. Initial search was based quite a bit on the wind screen. I was able to rule out quite a few aircraft on that feature alone. All in all, it was very enjoyable challenge.

Now how about the challenge of bringing it up onto dry land, although it looks like the cockpit has been well plundered and the tail seems to be missing.

That reminds me, I wonder if any progress has been made with getting that B17 out of the swamp.

God Bless America.
